I would really like to add a dwarf angel to my tank. My tank has:
Sixline Wrasse
Maroon Clown
Firefish
Blue Chromis x2
RBTA
Zoos
'Shrooms
Orange Digitata
Echinopora (or possibly hydnopora see http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/sh...7134#post27134)
Candy Cane Coral (caulastera sp)
I know that many reefers keep dwarf angels successfully and am trying to find out which varieties you have had the most success with. My top choices would be flame, coral beauty, Potter's or lemon peel but I would not rule out others if you have had particularly good luck with them.
i have a flame angle, the little guy likes to nip on everything except my sps. this is general flame angle behavior to nip on things. how much is a different story. my guy nips but causes no damage. the only thing i have in my tank that he seems to love is my gorgonian. so, if you love your gorgonians or sponges, i wouldnt get 1. oh one more thing, my flame likes to taste everything and when i put something new in my tank, hes always there getting free samples but after a while, he seems to figure out that its not food.
the flame are definately the best looking, followed closely by the black coral beauty! both of which are orsome in regards to the reef! although the fireball is another great choice! ive kept these species, they are a great eddition, they tend to do better when introduced single, unless u find the rare occasion where they come in as a mated pair!
they are benifical to the reefs, some individual temperments apply, & sponges are off the table, not that u have them, but they love em! as long as you keep your water quality high i dont see any other forseable red flags except space concerns!
ooh tempermants, i forgot. my flame thinks hes the boss of my tank. i have a large blueface angle which is the boss which is easily 6 inches and the flame has no problem trying to fight him off. definately a small fish with big fish syndrome if you ask me.
In my experience when angels pic at only a particular corals. Like everone said they will depleat any and all sponges. I also had bad luck with them picking at my clams. I've had flame and coral beauty in the past. IMO the flames are easier to keep. I will never put an angel in a reef tank ever again. I do know other reefers that have great success with them.
I have a Coral Beauty in my tank, he pretty much leaves everything alone except my cleaner shrimp those two are inseperable (fishy friends) to the point that if one decides to hang out on the far side of the tank the other will follow. They do REQUIRE sponge in thier diet so keep that in mind. Other then the Coral Beauty getting a bit jealous when I added a black saddle clown I've had no problems and even that calmed down after a day or two.
I love dwarf angels whether it be the Flame, Coral Beauty, Lemon Peel, Bi-color and various others. However I hate their habit of nipping at corals, devouring sponges, bothering gorgonians and tearing the flesh of clams. I do have a recommendation for you though, Carmie. I have grown to favor the Atlantic Pygmy Angel. They can take care of themselves, don't have any of the bad habits of the dwarfs and they are quite beautiful. Here's a pic of the one I had when we were in WI...........
You can see the green sponge behind him. As far as I know he never touched it. I had various other sponges in that reef tank he left alone, too. Great reef tank Angel. In my humble opinion.

Reaching my 70th BD, I realize that I cannot help but grow old. However, I refuse to grow up!!! My wife would tell you, "He may be 70 but, He's going on 17". Life is wonderful with a woman like that.
I also love members of the centropyge genus. Out of yout top choices: flame, coral beauty, Potter's or lemon peel, the coral beauty would be the best as they are least likely to nip at corals.
Pygmy cherub angels are one of the most compatable dwarf angel with corals although you do get the odd one that likes to break that rule.
If you perchase a larger specimen, it will get along fine with your other fish but a small one may get bullied by the maroon clown or wrasse depending on their temperament.
