ok i'm trying to pick out a skimmer. i'll list 4. you guys pick the ones you would go with. and say why. do it from experience please of your own skimmers or knowledge of them. list any good sides of it and any bad sides if you have any. thanks.\
1. aqua c ev180 w/ mag 7
2. euro-reef 100
3. aqua medic turbofloter t1000 w/ oceanrunner 2700
4. berlin classic XL w/ rio 3100
which would you guys pick. it seems i had my decision with a berlin. then something changed my mind. then the aqua medic. then aqua c. and now the euro reef. i know the aqua c and euro reef are very good. so now it comes to majority rules.
it will be plumbed on a 80 or 120 gal depending which one i choose. 80 lbs LR, haven't choosen the depth of the sand bed yet.
Someone at one of the LFS (not my usual) said that with a small tank <10 gal. you could every couple days drag a peice of white, plain paper toweling over the surface of the water of our tank to pick up the protein scum rather than dealing with a mini protein skimmer. What do the fellow nano reefers out there think of that?
Cheng- you will have a hard time getting someone who has owned both those skimmers and could compare them. I know the MRC skimmers *which u should add to ur list* are always highly recommended, and I have a Euro-reef that I love.
rgillard- refer to my post the other day about mini skimmers- most of them all suck- get a Remora if you can. Personally I would never run a reef tank without a skimmer - maybe if it was under 5g and had an extremely light bioload. Never heard the paper towel method of skimming.
yea not to many people will have both skimmers. but i just wanted to see which one someone would pick without restrait of money. and maybe a few opinions from folks with their own skimmer.
ive only had 2 skimmers, a seaclone, and from there i bumped myself up to a euroreef c180. i love my skimmer. i was amazed when i first seen how much stuff it pulled out of my water. since those are the only 2 i have experience with i would go with the euro reef. ive heard great stuff with the aqua c also.
latez
their similar to euro-reefs in design and they seem to be rating higher for the pricetag. i mean more bang for your buck. tell me what you guys think. any experiences from them, opinions. thanks

I have owned aqua c and Euro reef, both skimmers are great and pull out tons of skimmate. If you plan on the skimmer to sit outside of the sump then you won't be able to a Euro reef or asm. I have never owned a asm but its the same design as the Euroreef but made with cheaper materials. I would stick with a Euro or AquaC. Out of the box the Euro is easier to adjust and use, but aqua C has great customer support and you can get them used on Ebay for fraction of the cost.
sounds good. dammit. both i always hear are great. now the hard part is to just pick one. how long before either start to pull out skimmate on intitial set-up. which one do you perfer? and which exact models did you have?

Well if you are looking for a easy to use skimmer and don't mind it sitting in the sump then I would go with the euroreef over aquac. But both are great skimmers. I had a euroreef cs100 on my 55gal and started to pull dark skimmate within 5 days or so. Then I upgraded my system to a 90gal and bought a used aquac ev120 on ebay and it started to pull dark skimmate within a week. The aquac was a little harder to adjust and stabilize than the euro, but the output of skimmate is awsome. For what its worth if you were going to go euroreef then you may want to consider getting the cs180.
