RO/DI home versus aquarium setup

I am pricing out RO/DI units, and see that with Aquasafe there are two types, home and aquarium. Looking at the description, there seems, to me at least, no difference other than the home has the storage tank.
Also, does anyone here use there RO/DI for drinking water as well as aquarium water? My fiance would like to see if there is a unit we can get that can accomplish both. I read that some units are safe for drinking however lack a special filter that give the water the "good taste".
I dont have a setup where I can hook up the unit directly to my tank, as I see some people do. Maybe in the next house.

It's easy enough to get drinking water out of an RO/DI system. What you want to drink in the water after the RO but before the DI. You can just T off the linet direct water to your drinking water storage, or toyour DI canister when you're making water for the tank. There's no issue drinking RO/DI water, it just tasets pretty nasty for some reason.

IMO, you don't want to hook it directly to your tank anyway. If your float valve gets stuck, it'll just keep dumping water dropping your salinity nd overflowing your tank.

I agree with the float valve, you can never be too careful.

Like Pearson said, buy the home unit and T off before the DI for the drinking water. Intstall the "taste" filter in-line on the driking side and you are good to go. You can then mount the RO faucet right by the sink so you always have great tasting, healthy water. Most people dont realize that Aquafina and Dasani are simply municipal water thats run through an RO unit and a "taste" filter. Why buy it when you can make it a home for virtually no $$ and use the unit to help the tank also?

RO/DI water is very pure but it tastes flat and because it is so pure it picks up off tastes really easily.
