RO/DI from Ebay

I am ready to make the jump and buy a RO/DI unit and mix my own water. I saw several RO/DI units being sold on Ebay for really low prices. My experience has taught me the prices are low for a reason. I was wondering if any of you know if these units are good or bad?

First, I don't think that a good RODI system has any use for UV. Look that up, but if that's the case then why trust someone who is trying to sell something you don't need. I and several others here bought from Aquasafe systems on ebay. Its a good system and reliable seller. I got the maximus which included PSI and TDS meters and lots of extra filters for the same price.

I would also be interested in what people think of the plethora of 5-stage, 6-stage, ro/di units for sale on ebay,. Considering just replacing the filters in my 5 yr old maxima unit would cost almost more than buying a "new" ebay item, I am tempted to just buy a new one!

RO/DI components are made by a couple of companies and sold to anyone wanting to assemble them and sell them on E-bay or anywhere else. This is a HIGHLY competitive business (meaning, you don't have to pay a lot of money to get a great system) A UV on an RO/DI unit is a waste of money unless you are in a known contaminated area. Here's a link to the 100 gpd Aquasafe System Maximus II system that I use and have been recommending for several years.

AQUA-SAFE MAXIMUS II REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTER - eBay (item 160200952146 end time Jan-25-08 19:00:00 PST)

This is a great product from a reliable company. I have not heard of one complaint from those here on TR that have bought one. Save some money! You don't need the UV on an RO/DI unit.

Hello Goathead! I agree with the advise they have given you. I just ordered myself a Maximus II from Aquasafe Systems. It'll be here on the 24th. Good luck with selecting your unit. They sure do safe you alot of money in the long run.

I have an Aqua safe unit and a Filters Direct. I would say with out question, that the Aqua safe is a better unit. It made "0" tds water a lot longer than the FD unit. I think that the much larger DI canister was the reason the TDS stayed good for so long.

I looked into it, and it seems that the only reason for a UV on an RO system is to cause the denaturization of the DNA of extremely small biological pathogens such as viruses. If you are running your RO of of city water I would not worry about getting the UV unit. If you are running off well water I would still not be worried unless you have a know problem with contaminated water. You would have seen those effects on you already.

Ya I agree to with the advise they have given you. They are really cheap and I’m going to get one next week. But Skurvey Dog posted in my thread 29G Tall Help/New To Nano Reef about eBay Store - The Aqua-Safe Pure Water Shop: Category 2, ACCESSORY ITEMS.

I purchased my unit from that entity. I feel that I got a very good deal. It was shipped out right after the sale and arrived about 7 days later. The only problem that you will have is if you need help setting it up as I did not get a response to the e-mail I sent them until 2 weeks after the fact. Other than that, I'm glad I got the unit.
