Refugium

Finally making the jump from a FOWLR to Reef tank. I just finished
construction of my Refuge. Now what should I put in it. Do you need
two different types (course and fine) of sand? Should more LR be placed in there?
Any specific creatures snails, shrimp, stars, etc? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.....

we just run 1-2" of sugarfine LS in ours, along with LR and macro algae (we use Chaetomorpha, C. racemosa, and C. "razor"...can't spell the specific name). the pods and other critters will show up on their own in time, but we keep a couple of Tongan Nassarius in there to take care of any stray food particles. you could add a few algae-eaters such as Astrea or Nerites in there as well.

I'm running an Euro-Reef in my system and I love it.
Now you can go for ER, Octopus, ASM, Deltec, bubble master and ..... Basically any needle well skimmer is a good skimmer, specially if you modify the pump impeller
