Live Rock

Hello again from Dublin, Ireland

I am setting up my first salt water aquarium at the moment and I am at the stage where I have just introduced live rock (it think it is uncured due to the amount of debris from the rock)

I was just wondering should I siphon off all the debris or will it help/speed up the nitrogen cycle of my tank.

I have left the base of the tank clear of any sand so the siphoning should be no problem

This website is just brilliant, the podcast and the forums have made my set up so easy.

I would siphon it off. There will be more than enough to cycle your tank if that stuff is uncured.

Is it stinky?

i wouldnt say stinky but there is as they say in ireland "a bit of a hum off it", there is a sea like smell

i have a skimmer in the tank so hopefully that will help.

I get that pretty much any time I do anything to the tank.

You're lucky it isn't stinky. Mine smelled like an entire tank full of skimmant.

if its not stinky it might not be as uncured as you think.. but to be safe treat it as uncured. as far as siphoning, Seahorsedreams is right, if it is uncured you will be more than fine..

i put my hand into the tank and removed some of the hitchhikers. I have siphoned off a lot of debris and my skimmer is working overtime
