Dark PVC refugium ?'s

After seeing the DIY tube fuge podcast, im excited about adding one to my tank that will house seahorses. My question is, how long before the copepods, decapods, mysis etc. population grows large enough that it will start producing some supplemental food for my horses? and how will i be able to tell when this happens, i mean, is one able to see a bunch of zooplankton in the tank?

i haven't set one of these up, but my guess would be about a month or so..

now whether it will be "enough" for seahorses is really base don the type of seahorse, and how big the fuge is.. i dont think im qualified to answer on this
