Question Seaclone Skimmer

ok i know all the bad things about seaclone's skimmers so please keep them to yourself lol

however i treated my tank for red slime and i did not know i should of turned the skimmer off. so afterwards my skimmer does nothing but spit out micro bubbles. so i figured i would buy a new power head for the skimmer and install it. well i am still getting alot of micro's. could it be inside the skimmer and not the pump? or is it in the water? all my levels are good and i dont understand this at all.. any suggestions?

use carbon before turning your skimmer back on.

Awwww... the seaclown isn't a bad skimmer... just misunderstood...

Not that it'll help your current situation, but have you done any of the "mods" commonly bantered about the net? A new air valve did mine wonders...

I had (2) Seaclone skimmers on 2 smaller tanks - and I could never get hem to work properly. I either got water or nothing in the collection cup.

Then I tried the AquaC brand. These are my favorite skimmers for hang on back or hang on sump applications.

However, NOTHING compares to my Euro-reef skimmers. I have three, and they are all work horses. I know many people say they are over-priced or over-rated, but I have never had a problem with them, and they don't need constant tweaking. Plus, I believe the skimmer is the most important aspect of aquarium filtration, so this is the one piece of equipment I never skimp on.

yes i have replaced it this time and it didnt help, however a few weeks ago it just decided to create the micro's so i did replace it and it worked but not this time. do you know of any links or ideas for mods.

i ordered all my stuff for a sump today but it wont be up and running for a few weeks. once i get it up an running i am getting a nautilus skimmer. so i just need it that long and then im going to turn it into a bird feeder

Wwest, my dear friend your going to notice that your skimmer is going to go crazy for a week or two after having treated for the Red Slime Algea. I had this problem after doing the same treatment. What you will want to do is very small water changes every other day which is a pain but will definitely help in getting the Seaclone Protein Skimmer to behave properly again. Also before you modify your protein skimmer why don't you try cutting the flex-tubing to a shorter length. The Micro-bubbles will subside if you do this and tweak the air vavle to allow more air into the skimmer. The Seaclone is definitely a misunderstood skimmer the requires constant adjustment but does the job just fine in my opinion. Another thing you may want to try is placing it within you sump and connecting the Powerhead that comes with the unit directly to the bottom opening in order to increase flow into the skimmer by bypassing the J-tube.

If you want proof that it work look at the photographs included within my thread titled 29 gallon Nano Due to Job Loss and you'll see a photograph of the skimmer filled with crude only after 1 hour of operation but after 1 hour of fine tuning. LOL

there is a mod for the seaclone.. has to do with shortening the inside tube of the skimmer.. allowing more contact time with the water.. i had a sea clone HOB what i did was add a foam pad at the end of where the water comes out in order to stop the micros from going into the tank.. works great!!! ever looked on ebay? i got a red sea skimmer (classic version) for like 56 used!.. good luck!
