Try changing the air line on it, and putting an air valve on it instead of the crappy valve that came with it. Just use one of the little plastic valves made by Lee's. Actually try just the valve, then if that doesn't solve it, change the air line too.

I had one, and that was something I did that made it work better. I had to shoot fresh water into the valve to clean it once in a while, but changing that valve really helped. I also made a rubber gasket to go under the collection cup.

No problem, glad it helped. I've been there with the Seaclone. IMO they are not bad skimmers for what you pay and their size, on the right size tank.

As far as a new power head, I wouldn't go much higher in flow rate, that and make sure you can make the fitting that attaches it work, maybe use the one for the hang-on tube, if you're not using it.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but i've heard theyre are ways to make a seaclone skim a lot better. Has anyone tried any of these methods? If so, which ones, and did they work? I have the same one wwest has. It does ok, but it could do a lot better

i had 2 seaclones in the past, a 150 and 100. imo they are ok for tanks up to 50 gal. ive heard of a few things to make the skimmer more efficient, from adding a wood airstone to cutting the cup down so the skimmer will collect more foam. does it work better, ehhhh......... id just invest in a aqua c or something.

you can also try to make a needle wheel out of a bioball and replace your impeller with it. or some people just jam that needlewheel onto the impeller itself.

I know longer need it, but I'd like to see a plan for that, including what powerhead/pump it works with.

as far as know it is usually with the original maxijet. it is really not that complicated, just precision work. you take a thin slice from the center of the bioball and trim it down to a size that will fit.

So you just cut the original plastic impeller and shape/size and drill the bio ball, then glue it to what's left of the original impeller? hmm... That would be cool. I got a ton of used bio balls, that I'm not using but for some reason won't throw out. I no longer have a Seaclone though.

with skimmers u can not have more that 13% air mixture within the skimmer chamber. at 13% it stops functioning all together, im not aware of the specific model u are using, but what is the actual problem, is it to much air breaching the return caused by a blockage. or u think its the ratio's

heres a thought, if you ever retire your seaclone with the right modz you can convert it into a very efficent phosphate or carbon reactor. should be pretty simple.

just a thought.

Veriann where did you hear about the 13% air mixture max? If it's an article I'd like to read it. I have this thing about learning how things work. I thought for a skimmer the only things that really mattered were throughput, bubble size and contact time. I have realized that there can be too much air, I just never heard how much is too much and why.

Sorry, if I'm hoggin the thread...

save them for a sump_ fish only tank in the future! or u can cut the top open as anchors for plants or ready to go supports for rock or something! the only problem is that they love to float....lol
