not really, unless you plan to put a deltec on a 5g tank ... of course you would have much more than a 5g tank if you did that.
what do u have in mind? Skimmers have adjustments to decide how you wanna skim. Keep in mind that a skimmer that says it's rated for such and such gallons doesnt mean that much.
Well, it's kinda a dumb time for me to ask, as I already made my new skimmer for my 90 gallon. I was just curious for other peoples opinion. I made a dual beckett skimmer, 6 inch dia and about 28 inches tall. It will be powered by a Mag Drive 24. It was made such that I can add a 12 inch section if I upgrade to a bigger tank. I borrowed the idea from this one on Richard Durso's website: http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/filtr...rs-skimmer.htm
It turned out rather well, at least by comparison to my expectations. I just need to buy a drain hose and make room for it in my stand.
real hobbyist with sufficient budget uses EURO-REEF. hobbyist with too much money or like to brag uses Deltec or Bubbleking.
nice poke!
if u oversize ur skimmer u risk it being to effective & efficient thus drawing out the benifical things in the water column. it is better than underskimming, just means u have to be aware of it more, & mainly loop it, or shut it down during feeding esspecially. personally if u can maintain flow in a tap to loop it i would believe this is a better overall option, cause im of the opinion bubbles behave differently untill the skimmer gets in its rythum again, depending on the unit, it could also require fine tuneing again!
i truly feel that the majority of us with the current techology will not overskim. overskimming is a dream created by high-end vendors. that is of course with some exceptions. there is always a madman out there
blub , was refering to skimmers over 6-7ff high.
if u need a link i can post one, but i assure there are skimmers so big u need a chair to reach the cup, and even in domestic use too!

ha ha i get it now. you were saying if you can reach the cup, you're not overskimming. it's that darn aussie accent. lol
