If I wanted to set up a sump...

OK. Im new to this type of thing so bear with me. I have a 29 gallon tank and I was wondering if I should set up a sump. Once again I am new so this may sound completely idiotic, but what I was thinking is getting a 10 gallon tank, filling it with bioballs, live rock rubble and some Seachem Matrix Biofilter Media.

If this is a good idea, what is some sound advice on what to use to pump the water down to and back up into my tank if I kept the little 10 gallon sump under my tank in the stand?

found you!

Don't use bioballs! They can become a nitrate factory. Live rock rubble is a much better idea, plus it gives a nice little hideout for pods to proliferate.

Hmmm...I asked in your other thread. Can you drill the tank? This of course would be the best way to get the water down to the sump. Otherwise, there are other tricks to use, such as a hang-on-back overflow, such as this:

Check out Melevsreef - he has some pretty good ideas, especially if you're handy.

I'm not super familiar with the equipment that's available in the US, but I'm sure some others will soon hop in and provide some useful information!

Interesting setup. That might be worth looking into.
