I found this article on making a Culture Station. I plan on doing this on a larger scale and selling the cultures and Macro Algae through Ebay. I'll be ordering "Plankton Culture Manual" to get up and started.
are you going to be doing both phytoplankton and zooplankton?
Yes I will be culturing both. I'm not sure which I will start first. The macro will not be for sale for at least a month or so, I need to plan out a system for growing it.
oh, cool, i didnt see that in the post..
i guess i really need to quit internet reading....lol
awesome.. well let me know when you get your stuff ready to sell.
and if you need help in the setup, let me know, i have been doing the zoo/phytoplankton, for a long time...

Great idea....good project. I offer just one bit of advice (learned from mistake)
Keep your Zoos and Phytos separated VERY WELL... to avoid cross contamination.
I just lost an entire rotifer culture to renegade brine shrimp that SOMEHOW made it into those systems from their chambers. They are fat and happy, but now I'm lacking in rotifers
zooplankton is a term that revers to microscopic animals like naupalli and rotifers
the zoo refers to the fact that it is an animal, versus phytoplankton.
phyto is a plant, aka algae.. phyto is a microscopic algae versus macro algaes found in a refugium

im not sure how well it will work, the stuff gets caked on pretty good.
but with the wide mouth Rubbermaid bottles you can get in there with a little scrubby and clean it up.
i have been using the same Rubbermaid bottles for about 8 months now. when they get dirty, i soak them in hot water (if bad i will add some vinegar) and in about 5 minutes they will clean right up.

I'm getting all of my materials ready to start my own phyto, has anyone used DT'S phytoplankton as the starter culture>? I read that you could but haven't heard anyone with positive results or any results for that matter.
You could. Personally, I'd see if you can get a "DIY" culture from a peer. You know at that point that it is a viable culture and can be split and ready to reproduce! BUT, if you do use a "commercial" phyto as a starter culture,
