Salt Spray

Okay, I have my sump and fuge setup perfectly like I want but with one problem - salt spray from the overflow in my tank. I could use a filter sock but do not want to use any mechanical filtration, ie, sock, sponge, etc.

I have tried bubble towers with the teeth at the bottom but still get a ton of salt spray with it. I have even chunked up some live rock in the tower but the same thing.

Anyone know of a solution to rid salt spray from the overflow to the sump?

is the salt spay at the overflow part of the tank?
or where the water drains into the sump FROM the overflow?

It is where the water drains into the sump.

without filter material, there is not to many ways around abit of salt spray! ........ur talking at the end of the overflow pipe entering the sumps high tower?
creating a removable gutter that sits around the top of the tower, or glass top the area..ether way u still have to clean it.

another option is to have a submerged pipe! but as the bubbles rise they will create the same effect.

dont rule out the use of shade cloth or items from the hardware stores as possible options.

submerging the end of the drain tube will reduce the splashing, wich is turn will redue the salt spray and build up

that tall cup that your drain pipe dumps into, is that red seam at the water surface or is there anymore beneath that?

ok from this picture i see a pvc tube, surrounded by a clear collar down to the water surface. the inner white pvc tube looks to fall short by a few inch above the water surface!
so the water volume falling is filling the collar trapping the first wave of bubbles, but u still have downdaft pressure pushing the smaller bubbles below the waters surface & theres enough flow away from the pipe to create your salt spray via the smaller bubbles poping when they hit the surface further out correct?

u could increase the inner pvc tube with an extension, add a 3way adapter on a 45 deg or 90deg if u think it would help.
if not just grab a jigsaw & cut to shape a tabletop with a leg to cover that area!

i'm intersted in what the others have to say!

i agree with both of them,
looks like the inner pipe should be extended, this will reduce the bubbles, and in turn reduce the salt spray
