First, let me say I have never, never, NEVER won anything in my life.
I got an email yesterday from a guy used to work with. He was emailing to tell me one of the raffle tickets i had bought from him before he switched jobs was drawn for the 3rd place prize, a Nintendo Wii!
I am not a gamer. I have not owned a video game system since the original Nintendo console, but I really wanted a Wii, and it was at the top of my daughters wish list for the holidays too. I just couldn't see paying the premium they are asking on eBay or Craigslist, so this has worked out perfectly. Now I just need to get it wraped to remove the temptation of breaking it out and playing with it
congrats buddy !! my wife stood in a line at wal mart for 18 hours last year to get one of those things. then when she went to check out ... she paid,IMHO, way to much for it !! lol

Congratulations! I LOVE our Wii! I have not played video games since we had Intelevision but I really enjoy the interactive aspect of Wii. It has across the board appeal, our 5 & 6 year old nieces enjoy playing Wii Sports with their grandparents. In fact, we are looking for a Wii for my 77 year old mom for Christmas. I am not willing to pay the eBay prices but I am on the Wii tracker lists.
If you would like me to go on a rant, how is it that places are letting their employees buy one after another which they then sell at a 100% profit on eBay? I know that people who work in retail are not usually well paid and I am all for capitalism. But it torques me to read "have receipt dated December 1, 2007" in an eBay listing and then see that this person is selling a couple of them every week with the same notation. Since I have never seen a Wii on the shelf at a store (we ordered ours on the internet back in the summer) you know these must be employees who are buying them before they ever get to the sales floor.
A friend of a friend scored 10 of them some how and is selling them on Ebay. The first one went for almost $600! Cant really get mad at him, hes not forcing people to pay that much, thats the buyers decision. The problem is really Nintendo, if they kept up with demand this problem wouldn't exist.
Congrats! I waited 15 hrs in line last year but it has been worth it. The Wii is an amazingly fun machine. My wife and I enjoy playing it with our friends. My favorite game is Mario Strikers Charged. It's a soccer game and is very exciting, but a difficult game. Super Mario Galaxy is also another one of my favorites.
ive played it, will prob buy one for the kids in the future. For me however, im still holding out for the next X-box. playstation lost my business along time ago. But yeah, the wii is great, i was surprissed at how fun it is, even with the basic games that are supplied with the console. Got to get into them adult content games. oh yea!
im assuming from some of the comments of late, that america's supply outstrip demand. $400 is all they retail for here.
I am not blaming the entrepreneurs. But I do blame the big box stores if they are letting their employees buy them all up as they come off the truck.
I think that Nintendo must have a supply side problem somewhere. Since the demand is there they could get about whatever they want for them if they could make enough.
V, they retail for $250 here in the US but are selling for double or more on eBay.

From what I have heard, the production facilities are at full capacity. If they build a new facility, the increased profit will "pop" the bubble of demand for the Wii. Part of the problem is that stores are creating an illusion of unavailability.
I went into a Meijer here in Cincinnati (Norwood, if anyone wants to know) and saw three sitting on the shelf while Best Buy is always claiming they never have any. There are reports of Best Buy keeping the Wiis in the back and occaisionally having an employee walk through the store saying "I've got the last Wii in stock" when in reality there is a pile in the back.
Buy enough remote controls (and rechargeable batteries) for everyone. We have 4 controllers and 2 of these Sam's Club - Wii Ultimate Kit w/ Dock, Batteries & Cable. Everyone from my mom (77) to my littlest niece (5) like Wii Sports, the game that comes with it. If you like maze games Zelda is fun but it is a one player game. Madden is a fun multi player game. I want Bigs, a baseball game, that is supposed to be lots of fun. Maybe Santa will bring it.
Wii Play is a decent game with mini-games like ping-pong, target shooting (similar to duck hunt), and billiards. The major advantage is that it comes with an extra Wii remote controller.
shipping to oz cost the extra $150 smacko's , - wow thats cheap. $250 retail- orsome price! Only in america can price fixing like what you guys are talking about happen. Namely because of the shear numbers of ya all consuming everything . "hey, havn't you heard of rubbers?" muhahahahaa
come to thinkof it, why dont you guys bring some investers to OZ, & build your own city in the desert, you guys have added bonus skills from doing it before
