Choosing Clowns

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum considering this is my first post.

Anyhow, I am in the beginning stages of setting up my 29 gallon tank. Actually it's my fiance's tank. Either way, we've been visiting one of our lfs and have been keeping our eyes on a possible pair of clownfish. My question is, they are similar in the same size, so I'm not really sure if one is male and the other female. But they are tank mates in a tank filled with anemones and such. Any thoughts?

If I were to buy them and move them into the 29 gallon would they still continue to be good tankmates? I planned on buying some anemones from their tank as well because they are truly beautiful.

If the clowns are a pair then they may be fine especially if its a male female pair. Thi is going to be near to impossible to tell in the LFS unless they spawn, or are being sold as a mated pair. Even so their behavior may change once introduced to a new environment.

I would recommend waiting on the anemone until the tank has matured a bit, at least 6 months or so. The clowns will be fine without an anemone. Make sure to take your time introducing livestock. The tank will need to cycle before adding fish, a month is a good wait period before adding fish.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on giving the tank a good month to cycle and all. Oh and I was just typing to fast and not thinking when I was talking about anemone's don't know where my head was on that comment.

i agree with David on this.. the clowns should be fine..
also with the comments on the anemone, you should take it slow and be ready for there demands..
