Hi,

So I ended up getting my tank set up last week and it is still being cycled (Nitrites just started showing up on my test kit). Last night I was looking at the LR in my small fuge and noticed something on the LR, I believe it to be a tiny (possibly 2cm across) Flower Mushroom (Ricordea yuma). I was looking at it for a while and noticed it sometimes contracts itself, sort of like shrinking itself. I'm just wondering if this is normal? Might be getting a camera today, if I do I'll try to post pics as it might not even be a Flower Mushroom, this is my first salt water tank so please bare with me. Thanks

Thanks Pat. I ended up taking it out of the fuge and placed it in my DT, thought it might do better there. I spent around an hour or more getting it settled on to some rock pebble.. Thirty minutes afterwards it decided to move to another spot. I noticed something (a kind of crab) was picking at the foot of the coral, any idea what kind that might be? The crab was in a small hole under the coral so all I could see was it's legs.

your welcome!
hmm really hard to say there is soo many hitch hiker crabs if it seemed to be bothering the coral best keep that piece of rock in the sump where you can keep an eye on him till he can be identified once you loose track of where he if it could be a pain later, so just take that rock and stick it in by the drain part of your sump so it cant get to other rocks to easily and if your able to get a picture of the little guy that would be great

Sure is great, I find myself sitting and just staring at my tank for really long times. I'll definitely have the pics up later today, need to pick up the camera this afternoon. If something manages to survive the entire ammonia spike, should I be expecting them to make it through the rest of the cycle? I really don't have the option of taking stuff in my tank somewhere else. I'm getting very worried, one of my sea urchins started losing its spikes yesterday :(

I managed to get some pics off my mobile phone camera, I'm sorry for the bad quality.

What i think is a small Flower Mushroom:

Here's something that I found for the first time last night, I found it to be fascinating. Any idea what it is?

It sure does! It moves around sort of like a slug or something, it doesn't have any legs. I saw what looked like two small eyes at the top of it's head. It also looked like it had a spine going through the middle of its body.

I've had my tank for a week and only saw it last night, today I couldn't find it at the same spot :(. I'll get some clearer pics in 4 hours. Might also start a tank thread in order to get some stuff IDed. Seems like the Red Sea has a lot of weird things!

I think it looks like a Polyclad Flatworm. Take a look at these photos of ones from the Red Sea. Marine Flatworm Gallery (http://www.rzuser.uni-heidelberg.de/~bu6/red_gall01.html)

Thanks alot Carmie I think it is indeed on that link under Pseudoceros sp.

On another note, what's the different between a flower mushroom and a carpet anemone? Any distinct things that help tell them apart?

Here's another pic:

It's not very clear, it's color is very close to that of the rock. Still in the process of getting used to this camera.
