Mine close up like that sometimes when they are unhappy. Have you maybe moved a powerhead and he is getting more flow?

No I haven't moved any powerheads except when I first got him because he was getting to much flow and doing what he did now. Then after he opened up, until this morning when he closed back up and has stayed that way till now. Thats what makes me think it could be too much light so I moved him down so hopefully it helps. Hopefully he is in a stage.

I put him in on Thursday. At the LFS he had a MH light over him. I have T5s light shock may be the problem.

did you acclimate him to the lighting at all or did you place him up top notice he was stressed and put in substrate?

lance

you could use window screen to put over him and move a sheet daily to slowly acclimate him to your lighting if your having trouble with him still.

Yes I have been adjusting him to the lights I had only two peices of acrylic so that is all I could do. Not much restriction but a little.

Could you put your net on top of the acrylic to provide a little more shade for him? I have done this before. Keep us posted.

I will try and see if that might help but it looks like he is not going to make it :( I can already see his white skeleton but then again he still might make it.

he possibly could make it but its gonna be a battle if you have a hospital tank or quarantine tank with a bit less lighting it might help him heal up and come back then you can light acclimate him once he is better.

Hi Raymond, mine looks like that sometimes and then opens up again just fine but I did move mine lower in the tank and now it does happen less often so I do believe it was getting too much light.. Hope it recovers.

I hate to say this but it looks like it has passed. He has almost no flesh left on him except a little on his right side but it don't look like its going to stay. I have read of this happening when you move a colony of a torch or frogspawn that one of their branches will die so I wonder if this happened with mine. Ether way I am going to do more tests and see if I missed something. The good news is my hairy mushroom is still alive. Thank you all for your help its helped out a lot I appreciate it.

I am sorry to hear this Raymond. Even if it looses the last little bit of flesh keep the skeleton in your tank as they can regenerate themselves if even a few cells remain.

Hi again Raymond, I don't know if its looking worse or not but I just wanted to say again, mine closes like that and the first time it freaked me out but it always opens right back up again. How is it looking now?

Hi Missy he looks dead he is showing his full skeleton, but if I'm lucky maybe he will come back from a single cell like Carmie said that would be pretty cool to watch hopefully he will do that but for right now hes just skeleton.
