Magdrive 1200 for my 90 gal?

So.. Magdrive 1200gph for my 90 gal? 40 gal sump have't decided on the skimmer just yet..

I love my Mag 1200 but I put a ball valve on the line because it pushes a lot of water fast and the drain wasn't able to keep up with it .

Thats a tough question to answer with out knowing a lot more info. It could be too much or it could be just enough based on how you decide to plumb it and what you want it to do. Are you looking for a lot of turnover from tank to sump or a little?

I would personally plan out my design and then run it into a headloss calculator to see what my flow will be and adjust from there. If you find you have too much turnover, look into buying a smaller pump rather than ball valving it off. Why spend more money upfront and more for ongoing power usage for no end net gain?
