ok i'm trying to pick out a skimmer. i'll list 4. you guys pick the ones you would go with. and say why. do it from experience please of your own skimmers or knowledge of them. list any good sides of it and any bad sides if you have any. thanks.

1. aqua c ev180 w/ mag 7

2. euro-reef 100

3. aqua medic turbofloter t1000 w/ oceanrunner 2700

4. berlin classic XL w/ rio 3100

which would you guys pick. it seems i had my decision with a berlin. then something changed my mind. then the aqua medic. then aqua c. and now the euro reef. i know the aqua c and euro reef are very good. so now it comes to majority rules.

it will be plumbed on a 80 or 120 gal depending which one i choose. 80 lbs LR, haven't choosen the depth of the sand bed yet.

i have not used them, but Euro reef are VERY well know for being GREAT skimmers.

if i were to buy a new one today, it would be a euroreef, no questions about it

If I had the money I would get the Euroreef again, but I am very happy and will never get rid of my Aquac. I currently own a AquaC 120 on a 90Gal Reef.

I've got a H&S at the moment, but we've got a Turboflotor 5000 Series Protein Skimmer (AquaMedic) that we'll try out with our new system.

i've had all those skiimmers and the only one i still use are EUROREEF. never never a AquaC again. BerlinXL is dificult to clean. I've had H&S, they are good, but i think not worth the extra money in this country. i think dollar for dallar, EUROREEF is king.

fat walrus I was wondering why you didn't like the aquac? Was it the EV series that you owned?

I think my next skimmer to try would be a MRC.

JR Aquatics, i know that are some people really happy with their AquaC skimmers, i just personally have bad experiences several times. and i just think that EUROREEF is much easier and faster to tune, and one you do it once, it seem to require very little attention. i was never able to calibrate AquaC to skim as dry any of my EUROREEFs.

im going to try and be patriotic next time round, and try an aussie built unit.
they are not any cheaper, but they are pumping alot of research into making them

here are some manufacturers in oz.

the aquajets is my next target on the skimmer list, i havent heard anything from polytech, as ive only recently discovered them.

the specs on the units are on the web site if i remember correctly, but if not i can dig them out manually, they are around here somewhere.

You didn't mention the size of the system. I have had many skimmers over the years. I LOVE Euroreef. Had an ES5-3 for my 75G reef and now have a CS 6-2+ for the seahorse system.

has anyone got the digs on the "bermuda" brand. They look real promising. Check out the video on their site for the commercial skimmer. killer!

I have the oportunity to get a berlin xl rated from 150-400 gallons, or a classic rated for 150-200 for under $350. And i havent heard alot about these. Ive also been looking at the ever popular euroreef. But one for my system (rated 180g) would cost me $488

anybody still think i should go with the euro reef still???
both skimmmers include pump.

its a real shame that alot of our products have like 500% over mark-up. transport, costings per unit, R&D and finally retail still shouldn't be amounting to those sort of costs. we are getting robbed in the daylight people.

Robbed in the daylight, couldnt have said it better.

I've actually decided to go with a euro reef, when i get the money. Besides, the re-circulation mod and boring out the venturi intrigues me.

i figure that putting a 180 rated ER skimmer, on a system with abotu 180 gallons wouldnt be good as i plan on heavily stocking the system. but between a good fuge and a moded skimmer it will all be good (the next step up, a 250 g rated, is $512 :s)

I believe the reason for people not recomending the berlin skimmers is because they are a pain to clean?? can you shed some light on this randy>>??
The design seems to be designed well as far as the skimming goes??
I've never heard from anyone with experience

I think my Berlin is pretty easy to clean. The collection cup just pulls off and is easily emptied of nice brown smelly skimmate, and easily wiped clean. I have seldom had to break down the whole skimmer, but everything pretty much either unscrews or drops back into place. If I have any complaint at all, it is that I would like skimmate to be a tad more dry, but it is not so wet that water is wasted. Overall I am very happy, though certainly a number of other excellent brands have been mentioned here as well.
