Blackfooted Anemonefish in Zoos [Archive] - The Talkingreef Community

I just placed a pair of Maldive or Blackfooted Anemonefish (Amphiprion nigripes) in my reef and within a day the smaller male has started using a bank of zoos as a host.

My worry is that the attention of the clown will stress the zoos.

Anyone else had this happen and did the zoos survive?

Hi Falcon and :welcome: to TR.

It is not unusual for clowns to host among other things zoas, mushrooms, various LPS, powerheads or rocks. I have heard of them pestering LPS to death but not zoas.

The clown is now moved on and is now trying out a 10 head duncan coral for size.
The zoos appear to have taken quite a battering though, noticeably distressed after only a couple of days. I hope the duncan doesn't react the same way. The sooner I get the new tamk setup and buy an anemone for them the better i think.

I have read that you may want to purchase another LPS that is the same as what you clown has chosen to host in, this way he/she can move from one to the other and it will alleviate stress on the LPS. I have two frog spawn, I got them before I read articles that suggested to by two of whatever they like to host in. I purchase two because they were cheap and the clowns loved them, but it worked out perfect.
