As many of you know I have a 125 gallon acrylic tank with a 48" Current USA Nova Extreme.

Current USA Nova Extreme Pro T5HO - 10K / 460nm Actinics Light Fixtures (http://www.petmountain.com/product/light-fixtures/514049/48-6-x-54-watts-3-10k-3-460nm-actinics-.html)

I recently purchased a 60 gallon frag tank (12 inches high and 53 inches wide). I was going to buy another light for it, but I already have a 20" Nova Extreme that is on a 44G mixed reef tank I am getting ready to sell.

Current USA Nova Extreme Pro T5HO - 10K / 460nm Actinics Light Fixtures (http://www.petmountain.com/product/light-fixtures/515676/20-6-x-18-watts-3-10k-3-460nm-actinics-.html)

The 125G does not have an open top meaning it has two 23x9 inch holes cut out from the black acrylic.

So far I've been able to keep any type coral imaginable in the 125G. I have Acros, Montipora, LPS and Zoas. I was thinking of buying a new 48" Nova Extreme for the frag tank, but wouldn't it make more sense to move to 20" light to the 125G and purchase and 2nd 20" light for it? It basically would give me two 20” lights on one tank. I would then move the 48” light to the frag tank. Basically the 2 lights would be over the 2 holes in the top of the tank.

Sorry if this sounds so confusing, but I could save over $100.00 if I get another 20 inch light instead of a 48”.

It’s late and I may be too tired to think of a reason why this wouldn’t work. I look forward to any help you can give me.

i think its a good idea, but the 2 20" lights wont give anywhere near the same wattage as the one 48".. the 20" only has 6 18 watt bulbs.... 2 of those are around 230 watts.. not quite as much as your 48" 340ish watts.... i guess its a good idea if you dont mind losing out on the 100+ watts from the 2 20"s.....

i have 3 lights over my tank right now (2cf's 1 actinic)...i think its such a hassle...my tank is only 30" long and i have 2 20" fixtures and one 30" fixture for the actinic...it looks soooo hideous! i cant wait for my n.e.p. so i can eliminate the 3 separate fixtures and free up about 5 outlets....lol

but you also have to realize that even right now he isn't using all those watts... like he said, there are only 2 holes, meaning that everywhere else... the light isnt getting through.. and the T5's inch by inch are identical no matter what size they are...

I say go with 2 20's
