Hey all, i gotsa question for you....

I have just ordered a Nova extreme pro t5ho fixture, and it'll be here by friday. (hopefully earlier...:() My lfs has this light on display over their tank and i was examining it, and i didn't notice any moonlights on it. im assuming im going to have to be crafty and find a way to wire some up to it.

Buuut, I was wondering what color to go with.

On my current ....Current lights :tongue2: i have white leds on them. i never noticed any problem that they caused with my fish, it gives the tank that nice murky moonlight illumination.

But on the other hand, i heard that blue moonlights are supposedly better. people say that white scares the fish at night, making them hide in the rocks. they have also said that the blue promotes spawning.

is this true about these lights? or are they just silly theories? lol should i choose based on personal preference? does anybody have any pics of their tanks under the blue moonlights to share?

what do you think is better?

thank you! :)

I'm not sure about the spawning theory or about scaring the fish, but I think white moonlights look better. My light fixture now has white and blue lights. My xenia love the white light. White light looks more natural to me as well.

how could blue be better.. the moon isn't blue, and neither is the light coming off of it...

I think the reason blue became popular is because of its wavelength you can have a brighter blue light without effecting the fish or coral and you can see more things inside the tank

its a total of 12lbs. i went back later on to get one last piece, but it wasnt finished curing yet. later in the week I will pick it up. I told the owner not to sell it...hopefully she wont. it was a great piece. And due to the holidays on thursday, (shipment day at the lfs) there is a chance that my light will be coming in tomorrow! EEE! :D

my tank is actually starting to look ....reefy now! i love it! cant wait till i have corals and whatnot in thereeee!

i need to come up with something to do with my chocochip star...idk if i should put him in my sump...it might be hard to find him since my skimmer takes up most of the space.... :(

yah Im the type of guy that likes seeing stuff visually. lol Plus you get to see all the awsome stuff instead of just reading about it and letting my imagination to the work. Plus i get to see other peoples awesome tanks.

I sure hope so giving you luck. :)

Dont you love that feeling I know I do. You see your tank getting all set up and put together makes you want to run around jumping and hugging everyone. LOL

Do you have a QT you could put it in there. Or you can take it back to the LFS for credit and maybe use that money for corals or fish etc. Thanks :)

yea, the back of that rock was branching. i have the branches facing towards the back though, since the coloration in the front was absolutely gorgeous, and since it had little crevices and cave openings and whatnot.

no, unfortunately i dont have a QT.. no room to set one up... i already asked the lfs about it, and they would take them back, but they wont give me any credit for him since he probably wont sell any time soon. she said that nobody really buys chocos. theres 2 for sale there already that have been sitting there for a good month or so. ill think of something. i might just re-arrange my sump so theres a bit more room in there and i will prob put him down there.

Well that sucks. Around here where I live choco's sell like crazy. Hope you find a way re-arranging the sump. Thanks :)

The problem is that chocolate chips are not reef safe. They will eat corals and anything they can catch.

oh believe me carmie...ive had my fair share of casualties from the starfish.... it ate a huge 2"ish hermit right outta the shell overnight. lol i was really kinda upset about it. it will be a while before any corals come into the tank....so theres still time to figure out what to do with the star.

well...i still havnt gotten my lights yet. I was supposed to have them on friday, but they decided to tell me that they have been back ordered. So, i was kind of upset about it. The manager and I got into a debacle about my light and which one I had ordered. He was telling me that the N.E.P. had 4 lights. and i told him i ordered the one with 6 lights and that the Nova Extreme had only 4. Finally he looked it up in the computer and saw i was right. lol

...so after that, i left there empty handed again.... :( but then later that night before they had closed, i got a phone call from them saying that they were able to order it from another supplier. Only thing is that i would have to pay the 15$ s&H fee. i said thats fine, and they ordered it. it should be here early this week.

im pushing more towards today or tomorrow. lol

we shall see....

so. Today was a lovely day.

I FINALLY got my nova pro today! It is absolutely amazing! It brings up such amazing color in the tank compared to my last lights. I have the actinics on right now with a few small rocks with a bit of zoos on them.. The colors look awesome under the light. I have had it on for like an hour only and already love it. I can't wait to get corals in there! :)

sorry bout not posting pics yesterday, i was on my ipod browsing the forums since the batteries on my mac minis keyboard died, and my gf was on the laptop..

but anyway, heres the new light..... gawd is it bright... haha my gf said she can check her emails and get a tan without stepping outdoors.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/pvt7donut/3085827580_d5f4c38fde_o.jpg

like i said earlier, the only negative i think about this light is the lack of moonlights. I enjoy looking at my tank in the middle of the night. i have to rig up some leds somehow...

..and i cant wait for my gf to wake up! i want to turn on the light so badddd, but she will wake up and say its too bright in here! haha

heres the tanks with the previous lighting....and this is also with a flash on the camera, but you can still see it wasn't very bright.

this set up was
2- 20" Current USA satellite fixtures 40watts each
1- AGA 30" light strip with 20watt actinic bulb

kind of ghetto-rigged onto my tank....it looked terrible! lol its nice having it all in one fixture! :D

Nice light! I've seen sellers on eBay who have moonlights that can be mounted inside of your light fixture.

Yippy Skippy............ I found your piccies! Glad to see you adding more LR. I'd of got the shakes for that one piece of LR if they hadn't of sawed off the branches! That would of been a killer piece for sure! They are still some very interesting pieces. Glad to see you found your way back home to TR PT. I've missed you! :love!:

YAYYY! lol.

i still havn't been able to shoot a pic of the eel. hes hiding under the rocks and you wont be able to see how big he actually is. I will have the camera ready when its feeding time. Either tonight or tomorrow.

I also never noticed how much green algae the camera brings out. The one angled tank shot with the flash on, has a whole lotta green in it. if i look in my tank, i dont see any of it.. haha thats so weird.
