I found it in my tank one morning on of my clams. When I got home from work the shell had a hole in it and the clam was gone. I doesn't look like a Whelk, more like a conch. The rock is from Tampa Bay Saltwater. Should it be moved to my ten or is it okay to keep in the 35?

it looks like a conch to me, but i hope it isnt. I have seen that some species can be dangerous.

I remember seeing pix of a snail with a shell like this that was a bad guy. You might go on over to ProjectDIBS and post some pix there to see if anyone can ID it. Here is a photography guide Taking Photographs of Snails for Identification - Project DIBS Forums (http://www.projectdibs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1520) that will help you to take the right pictures.

You know, I've played with the idea of a maximum security tank with cool but unruly tank residents.

You should of cleaned the creature out and saved it for a hermit crab to use as a home if you liked it. That would of been pretty neat to have a hermit with a shell like that. :agree:

Looks like a Murex snail on the button! Very voracious indeed, keep an eye peeled for others.

I dont keep many hermit crabs. I use nassiarus snails, a serpent star, bristleworms, and pods for a clean up crew.
