Is it possible to overfeed (overadd) live microalgae to the tank? I know the dead stuff can play havoc with the nitrate levels if you overadd, but what about the live stuff?

Thanks all

I suppose there is a point when you can over add any food item. Depending on the size of the tank, the filter feeding bio load and the amount of "stuff" added it seems to me that might cause problems. I doubt there have been any studies done on this. Why do you ask?

I have read of people adding microalgae until the water has a greenish tint which sounds like an awful lot to me.

If its for food purposes for tangs or fish, I would think that like any plant, once it gets dinged up a bit, it would die off and then start decaying and might not be good that way.

Like with all good things, sometimes you just have to know when to say when ;)
