Haha thanks I love my six line wrasse I call him Wrassey... Isnt that orignoal Ehh... Hes always in the center of the tank. And his colors are amazing ill try to get a clsoe up on him. I do want to add coral tho. I might need to update my lights tho there like 5 yrs old and i need better ones. And the same for my 75. And in real life my 5 isnt that purpleish color its like pale white.. My camera is off tho its like a 25$ camera if u cant tell

08-13-2008, 10:45 PM
thanks I would like that my LFS sells them for $15.00 once I remodel my tank i'll have to get one.
Also just to let you know that your suposed to change your lights out about every 6 months due to the fact that the bulbs loses theyer color spectrum due to age. Anyways good luck :)
There not really 5 years old silly :) it was a metaphore there around 1 and 3 mounths old. But im gona upgrade too. and if you mean your lfs sells 6 lines for 15$ mine sells them for 45$....
rayme07
08-13-2008, 11:33 PM
realy wow I must be getting a deal then thats alot of money for one of those not in less the prices changed I havent been to the LFS in about 3 months so I would have to check I hope they didnt change I just looked on my LFS websight and theyer selling them for $16 so im still good. .:D and sorry I didnt know you were saying it in metaphoreic now I feel like a dork LOL anyways good luck talk to you later.
hehe thanks bud :) well i cant complaine with the price of my 6line! hes gerogous soo id pay 200$ for him and i found another xmas wrasse today are those compatiable in a 30g? it was amazing only 40$ too he just came in today so my LFS is amazing and told me waita couple weeks they'll reserve him for me. And my lfs loves me i get 10% off on everything i buy no matter the price or what it is and im also on the cover of the door that says If i can do it you can to!!. that was from when i was in FW. Omgim famous at my lfs and they love me.
rayme07
08-13-2008, 11:49 PM
youve got a good LFS there if they do that reserve it for 2 weeks wow Im glad its working out for you. I just checked on the internet and it said the minimum size is a 55 gallon so I dont think it will work in a 30 but you might behable to not sure though but man its a awsome colored fish. congrats on it. Also I like your signature its great.
Well maybe a nice addition to my 75 when its up and ready oh and btw they dont really researve it they just say its a show fish :) lolololololololololol i was there when some one wanted to buy my clown i spoted from day when i ventured into SW there like oh where sorry this clown is not for sale he stays in the tank. lol
rayme07
08-13-2008, 11:53 PM

Umm well im not quite sure. YET but im hopefully wanting to add a Powder brown tang. MY favorite fish and i will make it work for him lol. Possbily a christmas wrasse. Umm The rest i really dont know.Possible a pair of clowns i dont know what else any suggestions?

mabe a cardnal would be good like a pajama or a banggi. Or mabe a royal gramma or something like it like a bicolor dotty back I had both and I liked them exspecialy the dottyback I called him courange becoause he would be so courias he actualy whent inside my hydrometer it was funny to bad he died though. thats all I can think of so far there so much to choose from.
I know right!!!!! do you think a powder brown tang will work in a 75?
rayme07
08-14-2008, 12:08 AM
yah I think it would work if you keep lots of swimming space and stock it very little like say 5 or 6 fish mabe less. I know one thing it would be an awsome fish to put in that tank exspecialy how long it is. Iv never seen a long 75 the ones around here are squareish looking. but you defantly have the swimming length. mabe someone else could help to just to make sure. should ask dick or amphibious theyve been in this hobbie more years than I have Iv only been in SW for 2 1/2 years now. or you could look at the tang forms and see they helped me out alot just reading past forms.
Ive been pming dick sense day negitive10 lol dick was the first person i met on thiswebsite heck weve even chit chated on the phone. He says no. but i dont think he realises how long my tank is for a 75 5 feet is pretty long its not 5 on the exact its like 5"6 or somthing not that far away from 6ft and he says 6ft is the min for tangs. I hafta trust im on this even tho. I would dedicate this hole tank to the tang. I hope he reads this and finds out that my tank is bigger then he thinks. I think he said my tank is like 4ft earlier in a pm.
oh i forgot to tell you post some more fishies! im not a fan of small little fish asides 6lines!
rayme07
08-14-2008, 12:21 AM
yah he should read it hopfully alot more people read it because this is going to be a great build im excited for what the tank is going to look like. But like I said before someone else that is more experianced than me will have to ancser you tang problem I wish I could help though. even though i dont think a inch would mater but some people think different and its for the better of the fish so it dont get stressed out and may die. so good luck  :)

ok ill give you all the small fish I know of theyres basslets, blennies, damsels, and gobies. If you want to see the pictures of all the fish I just wrote go to Saltwaterfish.com - Saltwater Fish, Saltwater Fish Aquariums, Tropical Fish, and Saltwater Fish Tanks (http://www.saltwaterfish.com) they have all the small and big fish for anysize tank. check it out I dont know how good the fish are so I dont know if you would want to buy from them I would have to ask the people on TR but its good to see the different fish you could get.
Thanks lol.... Well alot of websites say 70gallons but you cant trust all websites as i seen copperbands hav a min of 10gals and a koran angel of 25 gallons. But one thats most accuarte to me is LiveAquaria.com Even tho they do have some misspells dick also refers to this website too Do you know any other fish Thats not so small i could possibly add to my 75?
rayme07
08-14-2008, 12:32 AM
If you like something that burrow I would suggest a yellow head jawfish they funny little critters and you can keep more than one in your tank pluss they stir up your sand which is a good thing. thats basically all I could realy think of but just to look I would go to the web sight just to see the different types I was talking about.
ahh okay Ill look :) I might oder 100 lbs+ of LR tomorrow
rayme07
08-14-2008, 12:36 AM
oh I almost for got a fish a fire fish they are realy neat and you can also put them in pairs.:agree:
ahh cool I liked that one that burrows that you mentioned earlier but my LS is all really fine and not really diffrent in sizes so i guess they cant burrow as good?
rayme07
08-14-2008, 12:52 AM
I dont know but I heard if you put a rock on top of the sand that is will make a home under that like a roof of a house. I never herd that you have to have different size sand cranes. I know that you have to have 4" or deeper sand beds.
I barely have a 3 inch bed darn. :(
The water is clear!! woot i can see now lol
rayme07
08-14-2008, 01:34 PM
that should be ok you can always add an inch. some pics with the water clear would be nice if you dont mind :D anyways are you thinking about getting the jawfish. :)
Im concisdering it. I might order 100 pounds of Live rock today. So i dont know.. Why want pictures its the same as the old pictures just a little clear'er ill add more pics when i get more LR

nice tank love the coral and the new lighting its looking a lot better. dont know what the coral is though hopfuly someone chimes in soon.
Ok well when i woke up this morning i was thinking mhmm water test. So i tested both and i hate to say it but i forgot the readings on the big tank. My 30g was fine so my grandma called me and was like want to go to the lfs today?. I asid sure.. She came over around 30 mins later. and about a couple hours of talking to the guy who runs the LFS i came home with a coral beauty. He says it was his for a couple of mounths in his reef tank tell everything got fried. and died and that was the only thing that was left. So he decided to move it to his tank at the lfs. Where nothing is avabable. In the 800gallon its his own tank. Hes have it at home but not enough support. So he told me. Hey Jace i know you come here about 2 to 3 times a week. And i know you have good tanks at home. I just smiled and looked at him. And he goes I want to show you somthing. He took me over to his 800g in the way back of the store in his office where you cant see it. Behind the locked room. He said this Coral beauty is the best one hes ever seen. I was still amazed at how good the tank looked., It was perfect. I quickly inturputed him and asked how much LR was in there he said almost a thousand pounds. And it was full of coral and cool hiding places for fishes he had a powder brown tang the yellow belly regal tang. And a salfin and a purple. and like 100 chromis and alot of other fish. he goes this coral beauty ill give him to you for free.I told him no. I said ill will pay store price for this amazing coral beauty. And he took the offer. So now i have the most amazing coral beauty ive ever seen floating in its bag in my tank. Cant wait to acclimate him and give you guys pictures

They literly play together atfirst i tought they where fighting but i looked closely and they where chasing eachother around the clown will chase him aroud the tank once and hill turn around and chase the clowns and he looks cool under my light

Wowsers, look at you go Jace! You did a great job with the aquascaping. I really like it and am very proud of you. The individual pieces of LR look to be large and also have some weight to them. You chose well. If you did not secure the LR, please do be careful when cleaning and working in your tank so one doesn't fall and crack the glass. What are your tank readings now?
CarmieJo
08-27-2008, 11:17 PM
It is amazing what a difference a few rocks make! Do you have them secured somehow? I like the look you have achieved but some of them look a bit precarious.
There not all secured the top ones i do have glued to the bottom ones and to the other top ones And the bottom ones I cant even budge like seriously when i tried pushing just a little preasure nothing so i tried harder nothing and lil harder nothing Its all safe as of now I also lightly pounded eachside of the rock to make sure if a fish darted at it it would be safe. My readings as of now. I dont even want to know Im still gona give it another week before i even think about testing it :/ I should get some pics of my 30g later today and post for you guys
Oh and btw Ray its supose to be a rock wall with 2 caves in it one at eachside

Thanks for the info on the rockwork Jace. I just wanted to be sure that you wouldn't set yourself up for a major accident as that volume of water will appear to be twice as much when it is all over the room and soaking into the sheetrock in the walls. You are part of the mighty TR family now :p and we look after each other. Friends always have your best interest at heart you know, so of course we want to ask questions and gently guide you to a sucessful, enjoyable reefing experience.
Actually it is a good idea for you to start testing your water parameters and keep a journal as you go. This will give you some experience and confidence in using your test kits while you observe the nitrogen cycle. This way you will know where your tank is at and at what speed things are moving along. It will also get you into a good habit and routine of monitoring your tank.

Lol Thanks guys Well I Do test my 30g monday and friday so im guessing ill do the same With my 75g... I dont know how to use my camera so i cant get a pic of anything in my 30g I dont even know how to turn flash off :/...And also you cant telll in the pic but my water is all brownish color so im gona do a 50% water change to get some more clear water in there.. Does that sound like a good idea Im also talkin about my 75 thats currently cycling or should i wait tell after the cycle Help Wanted :/
Well i did a quick test on my 75 nota full one and i guess i have good news... Sad news for me. :(.......
atm ammonia is at 2.0 and nitrite is at .050ppm guess my tank is cycling
CarmieJo
08-29-2008, 08:31 PM
Jace, unless you have hitchhiker corals I would not do a water change until after the tank cycles.
Okay thanks carmie I dont see anything and im not quite sure. anything could survive
CarmieJo
08-30-2008, 12:01 AM
In that case I'd just let it cycle!
Sounds like a plan stan i got some new coral for my 30 just let me find some battires for my camera
bbl_nk
08-30-2008, 06:24 PM
Yeah let her cycle ;) I've heard mixed bags on water changes post-cycle, from frequent 5% to monstrous 50%-plus changes. I'd probably go with no more than 20% on a consistant basis 10-14 days...
CarmieJo
08-30-2008, 09:29 PM
I normally do a 10% water change each week in my 54 and two 10% changes in my nano. I used to do 20% once a week in the nano but have come to believe that the tank is more stable with the smaller semi-weekly changes.
floodland
09-02-2008, 05:41 PM
I've come to see that everyone has their own view on water changes, most of them seem to be around 10-20% a week, some are % monthly, and I even read one who said he never changes his water but says his system is so good that it is not required..
All I know is if the tank is cycled and the water is testing high for something I would rather do water changes then add chemicals to try and lower the issue. I've always done about 10% in my FW tanks each week so it's what I am used to.
rayme07

I highly dowt that theres gonna be something wrong with the water at some time hell have to do water changes.

Yeah, I always think those folks who "refuse" to do water changes are just waiting for a disaster :) I think enough research has been done to realize water changes increase the liklihood of success! There are going to be times where we forget to make up new water or don't have the time and it stretches out, but the important thing is to get back on a track as soon as possible.
With a stable tank, I'd do 2 smaller water changes vs. 1 larger one...just easier to do. If I have high levels of nasties, then I might be more agressive with larger and more frequent changes. I'd say a 25% chance would be the limit I have.
HEY GUYS!!!!.. Been really busy with school.. Havenet really been posting anything. BUT my tanks are in great shape.. My 75 is almost ready for fish!!! yay me :D.. lol Anyways to the real juice. Yesterday my mom spent 400$ on a fish and some coral and today another 50$.. I got 6 new peices of coral and a new fire fish. Pics will be ASAP. Just gota find some battieres

Hey Jace,
I haven't been around very much. Been getting ready for MACNA by getting our house ready for the potential hurricane. Of course it blew right up off shore to Carmie's area. But better safe than sorry.
You've made some real progress there Buddy. Things are looking good. I want to caution you on one thing.
Even though your tanks have cycled, that doesn't mean you can add things in quantity. You must still go slow because adding too much too soon can cause another cycle (Ammonia spike) and kill off a few things. Remember the old saying...
Nothing happens fast in a marine aquarium except disaster!
Please keep that in mind as you begin stocking the 75. You might think with that volume of water you can't upset the cart. You would be wrong.

Jace is right, click on the links!
I will echo Dick's advice to go slow. I may have given you thiis link before but in case it didn't I recommend this post The Building of a Reef (tank) (http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic23945-9-1.aspx) shich really explains the value of patience. I have tons of respect for Eric and I have seen much of the progression he is talking about in my nano since it has been fishless.

You guys know I've been in this hobby a loooong time. I thought I knew the "CYCLE" as well as anyone. However, Carmie's post above linking us to Eric Borneman's EXCELLENT and thorough explanation of what process our tanks go through in "cycling" is a MUST read for beginner and "expert" alike. If not for knowledge, then as a refresher course. Because Carmie's link is kind of buried in the verbiage and sometimes people will read over a link and not "find" it, I'm posting it again below. IT'S THAT IMPORTANT TO READ! Here it is...
The Building of a Reef (tank) (http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic23945-9-1.aspx)
Thank you Carmie for reminding me of this most important treatise on the "cycle". You are an important source of information on TR, a true GEM. :love!:

Tank looks great Jace!
I am just as impulsive as you when it comes to adding things, I added 5 corals at once a few days ago (buy 4 get one free ;)! I monitor the water fastidiously for any ammonia and nitrite spikes.
As it was you who first helped me understand the bio-load issues I had with the Tank of Death, I look forward to seeing your progress as you build out your new tank!
OH hahahha guys you guys misstook some stuff i wrote.. The hammer coral was added a long time ago. The onlything i added at once was a mushroom a small little coral and a fire fish everythign else has just been like slowly added i add maybe one or two corals a week. I just havent Posted them in a while so that is why it looks like that. Thanks to every one tho. Dick all i have done to my 75 so far AFTER the cycle is add 10 Hermints gona let them be in there for a week or two just to make sure they live and so they can graze on some extra deturius. Trust me just sense school has started doesent mean i have been slacking off in marine Education. But just to make it more clearer all that stuff wasent added at once,. and for the 400$ that was for a new lite a peice of coral a small LR a glass top and a fire fish. Hehe.. and for floodland your welcome on advise for the tank of dea th and i also appreachite you guys being worried about me going to fast but trust me im not :) Unless you think a peice of coral a week is going too fast.

Corals place bioload on the tank but not as much as fish do. So, one a week is OK as long as your parameters are good and the tank looks good.
OK well the paramerts are better then perfect :P everything is fine that way. i only tend to add one coral a week but my mom saw my grades and said this week a couple more.. So i took advantage of that.

Looking good Jace!
Sorry Dick I took the FTS. right after I acclimated some new stuff so thats why it was like that i cleaned the glass yesterday and took the rest of the pics as you can see.
Unfortunilty my Coral Beauty passed away. He was old and had a nice time with me for the couple of mounths i had him. Found him this morning laying on the bottem and was having a trouble breathing. So i netted him. He didnt even move in the net. nd he is now in fish heaven. I dont think my Flame angel had anything to do with it. But you never know I know both fish are very risky together. I also know that the Coral Beauty had some of its fins nipped at. But They where starting to tolerate eachother. The nipping was there from about weeks ago when i first introduced the Flame angel. Ever sense the first week they have totaly ignored eachother. Anyways if any one is trying a coral beauty flame angel comparrison i just say make sure your tank is 55g+ and caves on eachside with islands on each side. And just cause the first week there still nipping doesent mean they wont get along mine did they both stoped after the first week when they both realised the where stuck with eachother. Theise are amazing fish both with personalities. And if any one else was ever thinking about this but never did because of there not compatibility. I say try it. You can always remove one if nessacary. But i have researched and found alot of times it worked and alot of time it hasent. Anyways thanks for reading
R.I.P Beauty my (supposivly 3 year old coral beauty) it was a pleassure having you in my tank's
