View Full Version : Maroon Clown Digging

My Maroon Clown has been making a hole in the rear center of mytank behind some live rock (sand all over my rock:mad: ). I let him do this for about a week and this past weekend I covered it up and moved the rock work around. He has since found a new area to start digging.

Is this behavior normal for Maroons? He backs into the spot then shakes his tail around to move the substrate (Substrate is 3 and 4 inches arond the tank, and glass where he made his hole)

Thanks, David P.

yep.. totally normal for most all clown/damsel fish.

they wont all do it, but to have one that does, is not uncommon.

heres a trick.
let the fish find a place he/she likes. and when you get a chance, bury a 4" ceramic tile about a a half inch or so under the surface of the sand.

the fish will go back to redig the whole, and will run into the tile. it will likely clear off the whole tile, but needless to say, it wont go through the tile.
