I noticed today that my torch coral expelled a brown string like thread from one of it head. Two heads withdrew and the string went floating in the current. The heads have since re-extended. Is this something I should worry about?
My lighting is 4 Actinic 86w and 3 150w MH.
tank is 125g
75lbs Live rock
80lbs Base rock
Ammonia <0.25
PH 8.3
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2
Calcium 450
Magnesium 1035
KH 8
Alk 2.855
Thanks
how long have you had it?
ahh.. ok, thats what i thought...
this is normal..
basically it is .. well.. for a lack of a better word.. its pooping.. :D
you will actually see most corals with larger mouths or anemones do this..

Yeah I have a couple of Torch corals & after feeding them they tend to poop. Gives a new meaning to living in your own S%&$T!!! :-)
lol...
if they do this often right after feeding its usually an indication they are eating too much.
John, i would try feeding it smaller bits of food.

Rob,
The food I actually feed them is grated by a cheese grater, so I'm sure they are small enough. I might just be feeding them too much. I'd like them to grow nice & big & hopfully get some frags out of them. I'll limit the amount next time. Thx for the advice.
john, maybe its to to big, just maybe too often. how often do you feed them.
weekly, daily?
if they are healthy they probably only need weekly feeding, or even less depending on tank conditions..

Our feeding is usually MWF same with the sun Corals & goni's. I don't see the others poop as much. so I can lower the feeding then.
Thx.
