I was exploring another online forum, and soon after registering I received an email about what seem like regular frag pack giveaways, one for all members and one for premium members. You just have to follow a link from the email and post a response in the giveaway thread to join. The site works with their sponsors to arrange the giveaways, this time featuring zoa packs from elitereefs.com for all members and micromussas from reefdoctormicromussas.com for only premium members. Really nice stuff.
Anyhow, the thought occurred to me - why doesn't TR do this sort of thing through their sponsors? It may help to boost regular and premium memberships...

I am sure that R2R is paying SOMETHING for the "giveaways" they are doing. They seem to have a lot of sponsors from when they were clubzoa.com. They are also a much larger site, but if we keep growing like we have been ... there is no telling what will happen. ;)
Here we take more pride in giving advise.

From what I understand it is really more of a contest, only one winner. But, it is worth looking into.

Sorry for the semantic mixup. I assumed that a contest was something that one "competes" at, while a giveaway is more like they are giving away something to one lucky winner. Sort of like a free raffle.
Anyway, I didn't know that they were bigger. TR has 700 more members, but they have almost twice the threads and posts.
BTW: How many Premium Members of TR are there?

Thanks for the response...
Sure, I understand and have benefitted from that. I just thought it may be a way to increase novice and expert membership alike, in both regular and premium form, so as to grow the community and quantity of expert advise.

we are currently working on getting some more sponsors here, but they are kind of hard to come by for a growing site. i am sure that when i get my farm up and running i can work something out with Rob for some type of contest, though.
the site is REALLY growing at a pretty fast rate. TR is usually on the front page of a google search for a lot of different searches, so we know that the "bots" and "spiders" are working in our favor.
thanks for the input.
i have done contest like this in the past.. multiple actually. just haven't done any in a while.
i had plans to do a price with the PoTM contest again, but i want participation to be a bit higher.
i know, a prize might drive more participants, but it doesn't always work so well.. at least in the past it didn't.
Thanks for the input, i will defiantly work with the staff on some ideas
