I was looking for recommendations for a skimmer for my tank. I'm have a 55 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump so I estimate I have about 65 gallons total. The tank has been running without a skimmer for 2 almost 3 years now and I'm starting to get algae blooms. My tank has the following:

70lbs of live rock,
an anenome,
a clownfish,
a Blue Tang,
a Christmas Wrasse,
a Dwarf Angel,
a cleaner shrimp,
a sand star
some snails and crabs (came with the live rock).

I don't have very much clearance in my sump, about 24 inches, so I needs something that is short enough to allow easy cleaning options. I'm also looking for a skimmer that I don't need to heavily modify to make it efficient. I've read about all the cool modifications people have done, but I expect I won't have enough time to make them myself. So, I'm looking for something that I can count on to work right out of the box. Any suggestion?

thanks,

Jerome

look into octopus skimmers, they are efficient and ready to go ... "right out of the box". they also have excellent reviews online.

the blue tang is seriously, going to cause you issues in such a small tank. i would suggest trading it in at the LFS. they need a lot of swimming room and a 4' tank, no matter how it is set up, can not provide it with enough.
