Hello all, I just had a question about a powerhead I just purchased.

I found a rio 2500 + on ebay for $20 and couldn't beat it. I just received it and noticed that it doesn't have the attachment to place the silencer in. This powerhead is going inside my sump, and I was wondering if I really needed that piece or if the pump would be quiet on it's own. Of course I want it to be as quiet as possible. If needed, do I purchase this separately or would it be possible that a hardware store would have a fitting similar that would work.

Thanks

I think you'll just have to try it and see. I looked at several sites showing the 2500 and I couldn't see a silencer on any of them. Not sure what you are refering to as a silencer.

One of the drawbacks to shopping used equipment is not getting all the parts. I guess it's the price we pay in trying to save a little money. Marine Depot had new 2500s for $47 and some change and a guarantee.

I know what you mean, I have had a pretty good track record with people including everything when purchasing on ebay. Maybe it was just overlooked. However, the pump is in excellent condition.

If you look at the pictures it's a plastic piece with a nob that you can turn. I guess this allows you to adjust the amount of air input. On top of the piece is a small cap with a hole, and this is where you would place the silencer.

Thanks for taking a look
