I have a QuietOne 4000 that I use as a return pump for my sump.I have noticed that if it is manually unplugged or looses power it doesn't begin pumping on its own again until it is played with, it just sits there and hums without the impeller spinning, is this common with magnetically driven pumps or is there something that I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may have some calcium built up around the impeller. Have you tried cleaning it and then running it in a bucket of vinegar water for a little while?

I have taken it apart and cleaned everything with a brush however at the time I had no vinegar I will try that now that I have some on hand.

I think that vinegar is about like duct tape!

Don't tell me that, I'm the guy that has every color duct tape that is available, I'll be out looking for all the different "flavors" of vinegar:unsure:

Some quiet ones were known to have restart issues, but mine has never had that problem. If you cant resolve it, you could try asking the manufacturer for ideas.

Duct tape is like the Force.
It has a Dark Side a Light Side
And it holds the Universe together

For aquariums plain old white vinegar works just fine. For everything else there is balsamic!
