Hi All:

Looking into upping my current Turboflotor 1000 to maybe a Tunze 9015 or Elios (so expensive!). Needs are: small footprint, one motor/pump only, and height clearance of 20". Looking to possibly keep sps in my 110 dominated by lps and softies so far. I have 6 small fish. Who likes what? Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Matt

I have an old school Red Sea Berlin Classic. I think it it OK but that there are probably better, more efficient ones out there. It can be use out of the sump (which I like) but it is 20.5" tall. It skims dry.

Thanks CarmieJo. My Turbo must be about 13 years old and uses 2 pumps. I'm trying to get some heat out of my tank/sump by using just one, and I'm sure there must have been some updates in skimmer technology since the 90s.

Yeah, my Berlin uses only 1 pump. Since I keep the skimmer out of the sump I keep thinking I ought to make a hole in the sump and use an external pump. In the meantime, I am going to replace my 70 watt 700 gph (cheap) Jebo pump with a Ocean Runner Aquarium Pumps - Aqua Medic (http://www.aqua-medic.com/ocean_runner.shtml) 2500 that uses 38 watts and does 650 gph. Half the watts may not = half the heat but it ought to be less.

I have always liked the Tunze stuff, but I have never used their skimmers. I am a huge fan of H & S skimmers now that I own one. Not totally sure, but they should have a model that fits your needs.... worth a look.

I used to have an AquaC skimmer that I never was very fond of. I have a Deltec now that I love :)

Thanks guys, I'll look into those 2. I was looking at Euroreef as well but they seem to be in discontinue/switchover mode right now. I'm running exactly 7 degrees above ambient right now and bet I can shave off a few more degrees by getting the pumps outta the sump. Skimmer will have to remain in though, not enough fiddle room in the stand.

You can also look into octopus skimmers, they are great for the money. I can't send a link right now (from my phone) but just do a google search for "octopus skimmers".
