Does anyone just use their skimmer at night? Do I need my skimmer to run 24/7 or would 12 hours do

I have a Tunze wet skimmer that is broken at the moment and while I am waiting for a new part I am amazed how quite my tank is

I skim 24/7. When I tried to skim just periodically, I got nasty hair algae and cyano outbreaks.
