Been surfing on this site a while now, guess i have to give a little presentation of my reef. Currently it is not much to see, but what a heck here we go.

It has been running for about a year and a half, my wife kept yelling at me that it is in the way, so this wednesday i moved it to another location in the house. So have patience with the looks of it.

The display is about 100 gallons.
Lighting is a DIY with 8x55w PC bulbs 4 blue, 2 white and 2 pink/purple. There is some work left to do on the lighting.
For cirkulation there are two koralia stream pumps, plus the return from the sump.

The sump is about 25 gallons, that holds a skimmer (dymax LS 30) and a DIY ZEOvit filter and the returnpump (AM OceanRunner 3500).

To maintan the Ca, Mg and Alk i am using balling dosed with a IKS vario3 pump.

The animals are the must have stuff when having kids.

A couple of Clwnfish (nemo)
Blue tang (doris)
Yellow tang (bubbles)
Cleaner shrimp (jacqes)

A lawnmower blenny
sandshifting goby
bluespotted goby
some green chromis
C. rostratus (angelfish?)

Couple of hermitcrabs and a bunch of snails.

The corals are mostly SPS, but also some softies and LPS.

So here comes some shots.

This is how it looked before i moved it.

Welcome Marko! Beautiful corals. Could you identify them for those of us who are less experienced?

Thanks!

2. Hystrix (birdnest)

4. Lavendel shroom (rhodactis?)

Hej Marko! Fantastic tank!

What happened to the majority of your corals after your move? The new tank looks drastically reduced in population! :)

Also...how come to decided to go bare-bottom? Any reasons in particular? In my experience, the sand-sifting gobies don't do too well without a sand bottom. A pair of mine ended up starving...not enough to eat...in my old system.

Thank you!

Actually they are all still there, fragged a couple of them, had to pay the guy who helped me out with the moving. And the new aquascaping kinda made them disappear, looks a lot less. And some of them had STN going so i cut those parts off. From now I'll do more frequent and larger waterchanges, used to change 5% every three weeks. I will try to change 10% every two weeks in the future.

BB is only temporary, wanted to change the sand to a sugarfine instead. Couldn't make the time to go to BioTed before the move, hopfully i can make the time this saturday.
That is a maybe... There is this baby/children expo downtown this wekend also, as we are going to have our second kid in august my wife will drag me over there too.

I got a bit lucky with my sandshifter it eats anything that goes in the tank even formula one/two pellets, so it should not be a prob.

Hej Marko! I like the island look of the new aquascape.

(And yes, scraper is the right American English word.)

Thanks.

Sorry for the misleading info about the corals that are left in the tank. They are NOT all there. I had montieating nudies a while back, so all montis are gone. I just could not get rid of them, all montis died:(. And a couple of days ago the styloporas and pocilloporas were white, guess they couldn't handle the stress from the move, they were a bit weakened from the earlier STN prob i had a couple of months ago :(. All parameters are prfect as they should in a ZEOvit aquarium, slightly high nitrates (~10).
However all acros and everything else is doing just fine.

Yesterday i got some sand, Carib Sea Ocean Direct live sand. Waaaay better than BB:up:.
The water is still a bit cloudy, but gets clearer.

looking very nice !!

i would like to make a suggestion if i may ...

on th erock with the xenia, there are a lot of, what looks like, colonial hydroids. i would suggest that you get those out of the tank ASAP. they will take over a tank if given the right conditions. i had to remove over 50lbs of LR and "cook" it to rid my system of it ... now i have a few polyps coming back. guess i need to get in there and remove them too.

Thanx.

Those on the rock are actually some kind of Rhodactis discs, don't know if you guys call them hydroids. Whatever they are i don't feel like they are growing so fast that they will take over the tank. Anyway i was thinking about getting rid of them in the future cos they look like something the cat dragged in.

ahhh, ok ... now i see it !! scratch my last post ... after saving the pic and zooming in, i see the mushroom. good thing it is not hydroids ... they are a PITA to get rid of.

The tank look great!! I just have a quick question.

I see you have a copperbanded butterfly fish. I have always heard that you should not put them in reef tanks, because they pick at the coral. Is that true??? Does your nip at any of your corals???

DaTrucka
04-29-2008, 03:15 PM
Thanx guys and girls.

I have not seen my copperband nip at any corals, guess it's individual. Some of my friends have reported that they have had some that nips on clams. These are always a risk in mixed reefs, but if you feed them enough it seems they don't care about corals.

i have never had a problem with a copperband in a reef. if anything they are more likely to eat Aptasia than corals. of course my experience comes from them in an SPS tank, but i have never really heard anything bad about them in a reef.

thank you, wish i had a better camera.

One of them is is "bossing" the others a bit sometimes, guess she is the leder of the clan. I think the surgeons keep them quiet if they get too much of a pain in the butt.
Then again they are only about a year old, guess there will be more of that in the future. If it comes to that i will have to sell two of them or upgrade my tank to a larger (look wifey, the clowns are fighting...I need a bigger tank ).

Sheol
04-30-2008, 03:18 PM
I had 4 clowns until a few days ago, when I got rid of the most aggressive one (a tomato clown), but mine were all different species. That's why I was wondering if yours fought too, being the same.

I have 3 left, and one of them is still picked on a lot, so I'm hoping it gets better w/ a larger tank, too.

Thanks!

Thx.

Yes, fungia sp. it is, a rare one (atleast over here).
This one has blueish stripes on the disc and tips under the actinics. I have never seen one like this before.

A shot of it with actinic only. It's easy to see why it ended up in my tank instead of leaving it at the LFS.

Funny, I just saw a orange Fungia for sale last week at Zoanuts under their exotic section. Never have seen one before that either... Seeing yours makes me regret not buying it!
