View Full Version : Is the site slow? (3/24) Scott 03-24-2006, 11:50 PM Was just wondering if the board was slow for anyone else? I know I have been hit and miss over the past few weeks on visiting and reading the posts. But I was trying to catch up last night and the board was slow loading for me, and opening up some threads were slow as well. I actually had the site timeout on me a few times and lost a reply at one time.
Just trying to see if it's somehow on my end, or my ISP, or if anyone else was experiencing slow loading pages, etc.
Been experiencing the same results today. no, the server has been experiencing heavy loads over the last couple days.
i am working with my server people to get the issues resolved. Scott 03-25-2006, 12:11 AM Thanks for the info Rob.
Guess the site is really taking off then, with the heavy loads? :) gwen_o_lyn 03-25-2006, 12:12 AM It's been slow for me too.. I tried to get on last night and just assumed the site was down since nothing would load. yeah last night was rough.. tonight is better but still having issues...
hopefully i will have it better in the next few days... gwen_o_lyn 03-25-2006, 12:14 AM I'm not having problems tonite- works good for me...
You mean you aren't gonna blame it on my end this time, Rob?? ;) Scott 03-25-2006, 12:31 AM you mean like blaming it on all the fancy and cute smilies ya use? LOL jk lol.. no. i have no problem admitting when its my fault, as it is now...
its better now, but was a bit slower, and last night it was real bad.. Scott 03-25-2006, 12:47 AM I don't know if I'd say it's your fault. :) I was just curious if it was something toward my end....or if the site was just getting really busy. :)
Thankfully I don't have to worry too much about the config on the webserver at work. College webserver doesn't get traffic like a message board to actually bog down. Just have to make sure I have my backups, stuff installed if they want to play with something new, and attempt to get scripts created for what they would like to do. Now the network, both wired and wireless, is another story....that's when I'm happy I'm taking Friday's off for a few months. :) DJGonzo69 03-25-2006, 06:33 PM Hey Scott...saw your tank cam...looks like it's time to mow your lawn. Is that hair algae? :-) Reefbaby 03-25-2006, 06:56 PM woops! ha ha DJGonzo69....good call! :-) Scott 03-25-2006, 09:04 PM Yeah, that's my famous lawn.....or miniature kelp forest (trying my best to duplicate what's out in the ocean).
I've debated about moving the cam to a more boring part of the tank that doesn't show the lawn...but I guess I'm too lazy to do that.
It seems to be getting thinner since I've been doing water changes twice a week, around 10-15%. There's some cyno showing up on some of the hair now....and I don't mind too much, easier to let the cyno kill off the hair. But that's the only place the cyno has showed up. I'll keep up my water changes and see how it goes after a few more weeks, I'm hopeful it'll die off some more. Reefbaby 03-26-2006, 04:18 AM Scott - when I first got hair algae in my tank, I had a fake coral wall along the back of the aquarium and I think the upper edge of it was too close to the light, so it just grew hair algae like crazy. I would "trim" it every few days with tweezers and it was funny...always after I trimmed it the tangs would nibble at it. Eventually it died off and the other critters (crabs and hermit) took care of the rest. Maybe you could try trimming it every once in awhile...kind of gives your tank a head start... Scott 03-26-2006, 12:30 PM I could use a small pair of sissors, but pulling it by hand seems to work too. will start with it shortly, right after I get some water ready for another water change. Would be nice if I had something that would eat it...but I don't. gwen_o_lyn 03-26-2006, 08:57 PM I used a toothbrush in my nano and that worked good. Just be sure to blow the rocks with a powerhead/turkey baster at least twice a day to get the detritus in the water column so the skimmer can suck it up ;) Scott 03-27-2006, 11:25 PM Board seems to be back to normal speed for me today. Rob must have the loads all balanced and resolved. :D yep.. all should be good for now.. :) ZeroKoolNYC 04-06-2006, 03:29 PM Rob, what company are you using to host your webpage and how much bandwith are they allocating you? Sorry I'm a Tech for American Express Publishing. Just curious if I can help and give advice on something that I actually know about. :-) lol.. i actually run a hosting company as another one of my side ventures.
so i am using some of my servers that i have hosting in a IDC in Texas.
i went through a bit of a rough time, as the site traffic jumped drastically real quick, and i added video so it really killed the server. so i actually added a second server to handle the file hosting, and the original one now only does the website.
its just hard because i am pushing out at least 10 GB of data a day.. ZeroKoolNYC 04-06-2006, 06:14 PM Rob, you are indeed a Jack of Trades. :-) |
