yep.....its amazing what we take for granted these day..lolcompletly normal, on your second tank you will try to limit snow storm as much as possible im sure.

yes it is, it is just sand dust in the water column. it should clear up in a couple of days. you can add a hang on filter with some filter floss in it or a micron filter sock to collect some of the particles.

Yup. That's normal, even if you have rinsed your sand well. There are fine sand particles that will cloud up the water for a while. It should clear up in 4-6 hours, and be completely settled by tomorrow.

I normally add a bit of sand, then my LR, make sure my LR is firmly seated, add the rest of the sand, and then the water last. The "bag" trick is where you lay a bag (plastic, paper) on your sand and pour your water on the bag, so as to disturb the sand much less. Some people use a bag and a dish. The dish weighs the bag down.

You may want to wait for the tank to settle before turning on your pumps so you do not draw sand residue into the pumps and sump chambers. If not, no worries...

It took my sandstorm a week to clear up. :) Be forewarned, once it settles out the slightest disturbance will stir it up again. I found that these mini storms clear up in an hour or two. After a couple of months a bio-film will have grown over the sand and minor disturbances will no longer create a sand storm.

If you turn the return pump off it may settle out more quickly.

Yeah. Biologically there is not much going on in your tank (only sand, water and some decaying LR, right?). Having your pumps running is just going to help keep the sand "dust" suspended, and probably cause you to have sand settle in the rear chambers of your nano, which will do little harm, but why encourage it?

After your water clears (or mostly clears up), turn your pump and heater on.

The only risk is that there is some life on your LR that would suffer from a lack of oxygenated water. I doubt that anything that has survived as long as it has on your LR will easily perish. If you are worried about that, keep the pumps on and use a filter sock to help clear up the water.

is it a return pump or a powerhead ??

Bobby, Basically the nanos have a powerhead in the rear chamber that is used to pump the water back out into the tank.

oh its good i have a tank project thingie and i have snails and crabs and all have been alive for 4 days now water gettin murky need to go to LFS and get filters =/
