Hey everyone its been a while. I have a question about copepods. What techniques do you guys and gals use to harvest them from you fuge and put them into you main display tank? I just acquired a Mandarin Dragonette, and have plenty of pods in my fuge, but my display seems to be lacking. Or if you have any other techniques to culture them in you main tank I would love to hear that also. Thanks Everyone

Use Chaeto...put it in the fuge, give it a day, and it will be full of bugs. Then, remove it quickly, shake it out into the tank, and they'll scramble for cover. Others have used filter media and such, but I found that Chaeto works just fine.

Thank you, I don't have any Chaeto right now but ill definitely give it a try. Would I be able to get Chaeto from a LFS or am I better off just ordering it?

LFS sometimes have it, if not just ask some local reefers, many people keep some.

Swing by my house and I'll give you some. :) Seriously, if you have a local club check out one of their meetings and you will find tht there will probably be someone there who will give you a clump.

When the weather warms, up, you can mail it. That stuff is bullet proof. It can be shipped in wet paper and survive and it is light as heck. Shipping is cheap.

When I harvest my pods I use a small hose, alittle bigger than airline. I siphon them in to a container not more than 1/2 gal then add them to my main tank. I find this works best with mysis. I don't worry to much about the bad water from the pod tank because my display is sparkling clean. Then I add fresh made water back in to the pod tank. Two birds with one stone. I also use chaeto like Dave mentioned.
I have to off line tanks going one for pods and the other for mysis.

I live about 50 miles away from you, and my cheato needs a trim. PM me with contact info, if you are interested.
