View Full Version : TalkingReef Round table ok, so i got this idea of doing a round table discussion show.
once or twice a month myself and 2 or three other people get together and discuss various marine aquaria topics. just a structured casual convesation on different things.
what do you guys think?
would you listen? ;)
if everyone wants to see this, i will need 2 or 3 people that would be willing to volunteer there time once or twice a month to do this.. PM me if interested, serious inquaries only, i do ask that you have a few years of experience. you dont have to be an "expert" just have some experience to back.
this of course would again supplement the regular weekly shows, not replace them just like the videos (the rest of these will be out very soon) gwen_o_lyn 03-24-2006, 01:38 PM Sounds good- I'll listen :) JustDavidP 03-24-2006, 02:01 PM I'd listen too...and agree that a time to time, change in "venue" would be good. I don't however, want to get into repeated "off track" or scattered topic shows. I see this in other podcasts and not only do you not have the appropriate time to discuss a specific subject, but FINDING that information after the fact, being burried in a multi, multi, multi topic show, would be frustrating to the end user.
D JustDavidP 03-24-2006, 02:02 PM Doooh! or should that be Duh! I thought this was the mod and admin forum...
Ah well...in any case...my input is above. :) kj_yoda 03-24-2006, 02:32 PM I'm interested in listening. It would be very cool well, to calm your concerns my idea would be a structured open discussion.
for example, we would have 2-5 topics ready. the round table leader would initiate each topic, and go around the table looking for input or information on the topic.
because this would not be a every week thing, it would be more like as needed, or as we have topics to discuss. so we might have 1 in 2 months, or 3 in a month, as topics are available. i have enough on my plate that i don't want to make a major commitment (like a weekly show) but think it would be a great add for the the shows content.
as far as organizing, we can release the shows as enhanced podcasts, which will allow for chapter markers and stuff, so each new topic could have a chapter mark. but enhanced podcasts only work in iTunes, which is why i haven't done them yet.
this is still a half baked idea, but i didn't want to fully bake it unless there was enough interest, and some people that would be willing to participate in the conversations on a semi regular basis maxfischer 03-24-2006, 03:05 PM did you get the idea from howard? Howard who?
i actually got the idea from a Mac podcast called The Mac Round Table
i like the format, and though maybe people would like it here.. im not 100% that it would fit perfect, so i figured i would ask. AdamJ 03-24-2006, 05:34 PM it seems interesting enough to listen to and participate in for those who will be. Scott 03-24-2006, 11:56 PM I'd listen to this.
Sorry I can't volunteer....don't have any experience, just a newb. :D Kevin McG 03-25-2006, 08:22 AM I like the idea! bband 03-25-2006, 11:42 AM I like the idea. Sorta like the Sunday morning political roundtables-
"The Rob Weatherly Report" lol.. yeah...
as of right now we have one volunteer, and no topics as of yet, so there still some work to be done of we carry through on this.. DJGonzo69 03-25-2006, 06:28 PM i would listen to it. Reefbaby 03-25-2006, 06:53 PM Rob, I think it's a fantastic idea! Adds another dimension to the whole scheme of things. I'd absolutely listen. I think it would be a great idea for exanding on certain topics and to get more of a discussion going. Maybe you could even occassionally bring in a specialist on a particular topic (or two for that matter). Could be very interesting! kj_yoda 03-26-2006, 09:43 PM Rob,
apparently, like anything you do, people are addicted! They will listen to anything that you release! All because the information is researched and useful. And, most importantly, presented in a wonderful manner. Kevin, thanks for the encouraging words...
i am treading lightly here, dont want to make any big commitments, especially since at this point there is only one person signed up to do the show with me.. ;) JR Aquatics 03-26-2006, 10:32 PM Great idea Rob, I look forward to that one. I wouldn't even second guess that idea. What kind of people are you looking for to join you at the round table? basically, im looking for anyone with enough experience or knowledge that they can talk intelligently on a topic. this doesn't mean you have to be an expert, but lets say you have done a lot of research on topics X and Y and so forth, then we can pursue those topics.
feel free to email me, or PM me if interested (applies to everyone) JR Aquatics 03-26-2006, 10:47 PM You should mention your idea on your next podcast and see if anyone wants to join you at the table. i will soon.. i cant on the next show, but on the show after that i probably will if i dont get any more bites from here. Reefbaby 03-27-2006, 04:46 AM Yeah - I agree with JR - there may be quite a few people that just haven't seen this thread yet!
Rob - I look forward to the day when I would consider myself worthy of educating others on any of these topics! But, until then, I'll remain a lowly learner on the path towards excellence! :-) Yeah - I agree with JR - there may be quite a few people that just haven't seen this thread yet!
yes, i will make sure I get this into the next available show..

well Christi, you do it here almost everyday, and your advice has been good. so you may be farther along in your experience than you think.. :)
again, i'm not looking "professionals" and since all of the topics will be prearranged, there wont be the chance of anyone getting caught with "aaa... i have no idea.. i wasn't ready for that"... JustDavidP 03-27-2006, 11:44 AM Yeah Christi... Queen of the sandbed ;) You too have very good knowledge/experience to pass along. Don't be shy.
Rob...you know you can count on me to talk...and talk...about anything.
Dave Yeah Christi... Queen of the sandbed ;) You too have very good knowledge/experience to pass along. Don't be shy.
Rob...you know you can count on me to talk...and talk...about anything.
Dave
yep.. that i do... :D
i didn't want to assume, so thanks for jumping in.. :)
now we have 2 others...
what do ya say Christi... ?? :D Reefbaby 03-27-2006, 12:12 PM Okay! Sure, why not! Since it's prearranged, then I won't make too much a fool of myself....I'll trust Rob's editing here!
Thanks guys, you're great! :-) awesome.. we have three people.. :)
i will contact each of you later tonight or sometime thsi week to start discussing details..
i will setupa new forum for us to start opening up discussion ideas kj_yoda 03-27-2006, 02:15 PM Very cool. I am excited about it Scott 03-27-2006, 11:05 PM I have to agree, Christi, I think you are further along than you think. And from a few of the threads that you've posted in....you went out and did all this research! (RO/DI water to name just one) kj_yoda 03-28-2006, 08:20 AM Christi,
I agree with Scott. You spend a good deal of time now researching the answers to posts before posting your intelligent response. You know a lot more than you think, even if you speak from your own experiences. Reefbaby 03-28-2006, 04:02 PM  awh shucks guys...
Thanks! I'll try then....I'd have to bounce those remarks back on most people here though! :-) |
