I am looking at buying a used RO/DI Kent Maxxima unit from someone off craigslist. The seller claims its about 3 years old but that he only used it for a few mths prior to selling his tanks and has had it sitting around, we havent agreed on a price yet, however if the tfc membrane is no good or any of the other filters I may be overspending. I am looking for some outside advice, should I see if I can get this unit for cheap and risk needing filters or just get a new aquasafe unit from Ebay that everyone on the forum says are great affordable units??? Is a Kent system any better? I see it has clear canisters and you can get a silicate removal membrane, seems like the aquasafe system throughs in a lot of nice extras. Thanks for anyones help

Be safe, get the Aquasafe. That way you get your money's worth and don't have to deal with the unknown from C's List.

Yeah thats kinda what I am thinking unless this guy wants to get rid of it for real real cheap, how is it the aquasafe system is 100 GPD, I dont see any on marine depot's site that can move that much water. Which Aqua Safe model would you recommend, I am on city water, with pretty good pressure, at some point I want to run a line to the sink for drinking water as well.

Here is the unit I bought on e-bay - AQUA-SAFE MAXIMUS II REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTER - eBay (item 160216241944 end time Mar-12-08 20:00:00 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUA-SAFE-MAXIMUS-II-REVERSE-OSMOSIS-WATER-FILTER_W0QQitemZ160216241944QQihZ006QQcategoryZ206 84QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262)

The components of all RO/DI units are made by a couple of manufacturers and sold in bulk to the various venders. There is no need to spend more money than what this unit costs - $100 plus shipping.

Get the 100 gpd unit. When you want water you want it now. Get a Brute trash can and keep 40/50 gallons on hand. I have 4 55 gallon barrels full all the time.

Well alrighty I think its decided I will be pickin that unit up, unless this kid wants to practically give me that Kent model. Any suggestions on added parts? Pressure gauge? TDS meter?

I have bought both an Aquasafe and Filters Direct unit off Ebay and I like the Aquasafe much better. I think also think you will be satisfied.

you may also want to add a TDS meter to the list. this will let you know when it is time to change the filter components.

I have never seen a definitive answer on flush valves and there effectiveness. It seems likes is split 50% for and 50% that say its not needed.

Yay, got my aquasafe system today, got to say it looks pretty fancy, instructions are for crap. Any who, I think I read somewhere that the water I put into my fish tank needs to not run through the last filter "polishing" is this correct? So I T off of the "out" from the DI filter? I use the polishing filter for drinking water for added taste yes? Thanks
