That would be HUGE for a micro. I say, we go for the 1-gallon max sized pico, and perhaps even less for a micro. I have a cunning plan for lighting already though don't think I can actually get a powerhead small enough to provide water movement in my insane evil plan! Of course, the micro actually has to be a running tank/micro habitat and capable of keeping something alive for a while!

I was surfing around for micro water components last night, I found a tiny little pump for scientific/medical use (pumped a few liters per hour!), alas, it would blow our budget on it's own ! So much for providing water flow in my shot-glass ! Seems also that 1g-3g is considered "Pico", 3g to 20g a nano, there is a femta category for volumes less than 1g now! So, we are on the bottom end of the "pico". Saw a nice picture of someone who used a plant vase as a tank! Seems like some crazy folks out there --- and we are about to join there ranks! My next of kin are notified and I am searching for components now! Problem areas already are micro water pumps, lighting, etc... Should be fun ! Petco or Petsmart here used to actually sell a 1g pico box, pump, lights, alas, do not think it's available anymore - though it was within our price limit of $60/US. Fun Fun ! We will have to get Bobby to move our "spin-off" thread hijack to it's own area as the TR Pico Challenge, US/UK vs. Aussie begins!

If you want to buy that pump, im sure the blind eye can be turned before the first round. Taking into account we will try to create a new build-off every fortnight - compound that with the volumes we're talking about - so its prob a good idea - you can re-use your water device for every project.

These should mainly take time, not money, as with most reefers i know, the spare parts bin alone is huge, throw something domestic into the mix & the results can be wicked.

The Dark'One's femta (femta = <1g) tank is up and running with freshwater for testing purposes. I have some "build" photo's ready to post and will have it stocked soon once I can sort out temperature issues. The glorious country of England (well, a Brit living in Colorado Springs on behalf of the UK) is almost ready to post their entry!!!! (fyi: Total Budget spent, $39.02 cents/us)

You are going to have trouble with the roundabouts, they are going to build some in the neighbourhood of NCSU here in Raleigh and folks are having apoplexy! There will be less problem with getting people do drive on the left as some are already practicing. For instance, the dude that hit me was driving on the left. I got the stand done in an all day Saturday effort which kinda ran through to 5am on Sunday morning - not that I would confess to having been obsessed with getting it done! It wasn't actually too bad using a hobby mitre saw rig to get the wood cut though gluing it all together. Lets just say, I did have a few glasses of scotch in the process and I am uncertain if this helped or hindered the project - snapping tiny bits of wood during cutting etc! If I was to include all the hours wasted on cunning overflow designs which didn't work I would probably make myself sick!

I was dissapointed not to get any livestock in there - Mike is probably gonna be first on that! Grats Mike. As I want to have a "running" eco system for more than 30 mins to take a photo I will have to wait until we start round 2 to make some modifications and solve my heating issues. Some of my fellow SCMAS'ers did suggest hooking my micro up to my main tank to control temperature and water quality - of course, that would be cheating and not a true micro (I was tempted though, trust me, I was tempted!).

Still waiting for those pics Veriann, or are you going to admit defeat ? total volume - 1 cup max & fully sustainable mangrove habitat
Cost about $5 for tid bits like extra elbow & about $10 gas to get new mangroves from the wild!

Guys, orsome efforts all round - However im creating a new rule.
We take time & energy creating these, & by the sounds of it you guys would like to keep em running which is great! First few rounds i dont want what im about to suggest to apply ok:up: We have to keep the momentum in play till this takes off with mulitble people in the fortnightly comp.

If every 2 weeks is getting on top of you, you now have the option of a "Pass & reflect token" - this will allow you to suspend a new build, but you have to revisit & update on any project you have completed up till this point!

If you guys are planning on keeping these running long term, you now have the chance of exposure for more than a few days show & tell.

What do you all think!

DK, the pump unit is - well i dont know what it is, but it has a variable output knob, just fins you twist on the output to kill off the flow. Its hooked up so the filtration is not being pushed or forced, but being pulled by the output force with a special adapter. its got everything to do with pressure within the housing - kinda like science at the $2 level..lol Just think of it as a big or should i say tiny capilary system. If you want a close up im sure that could be arranged.

whats the story, im super busy myself & yet myself & T are the only ones down for round 2 so far,3 weeks of exposure is plenty to get involved! this better not flop or this will prove we are a information network not a fun network. If i wanted to hang with surfers i would be at the beach! get involved & strut your stuff peoples.:huh:
