Nice clams!

I think I mentioned in the podcast about the need for extreme depth of field for SPS macros... thought I'd mention same applies for clams, for similar reasons. Here's an example of a clam shot I took where I really wish I had added a couple stops of aperture... but still a shot I like quite a bit. ;)

Another example, close but no cigar. :)

Meh, heck if I know.... :) I never kept clams so I have trouble telling some of them apart. But if you put a gun to my head, I'd guess 'Derasa.'

The top one is a teardrop maxima, and the second is a crocea.
Robs looks like a crocea also. As for Travis's not sure but its freakin sweet.

clams- bah!
you just had a bad experience, don't let that stop you..
give your tank a bit more time to mature, and them go for it..
just make sure the LFS properly handles it...
i am almost sure your loss was because of improper LFS procedure...

Gwen - did your clam die?? Was it because of the problems that you had posted about?? Sorry to hear that!

I'll bet you can't just have one.

It's absolutely on the list of new buys for the new tank! My LFS actually has lots of healthy, good-lookin' clams. Can't wait to get one!

yup- it died :( I'm sad. Not sure why it died, but I'm guessing being ripped from the rock had something to do with it.

Oh bummer! sorry to hear about your clam Gwen. Will LFS replace it since it died? (after being ripped off the rock)

I just haven't had luck with clams.. .I don't know why either. May be light or the fact that my clown doesn't like the decorations

Hey rob, u think its possible to get Terry Balding, a biology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on the line to run a clam duo topic with you?
clams have to be coming up soon my friend, they are just way too cool to leave behind!
if u need contact numbers let me know, what would be eve better would be to interview an aussie marine biologist on some subjects.!
why stop there, throw a dart in a world map & target the country for topics!
just a loud thought.

the only reason i thought of balding, is he has been interested in clams on the professional scene since 86

wouldn't mind the clam experts to pass on the links to the best info, cause i'd lke to do some serious study up!

here's one of our old derasa that also didn't make it. but as soon as our tank is established enough we are going to try a crocea. lately the prices have been more reasonable than they used to be around here.

don't forget that a crocea needs more light and better water quality than a derasa
