I am reading a lot about the benefits of garlic to mixed reef tank. The commercially prepared soaks seem pretty expensive.
Is is possible to make my own? Would the garlic liquid at the bottom of my jar of minced garlic be just as effective ?
Thanks,
Bonnie

:hat: Hello Fulinn. Sorry I can't help you, but I know CarmieJo can as she was telling me about garlic and vitamins. Hopefully she'll pop in here and help you out.

I just bought a bottle of garlic guard and it really wasnt too expensive, maybe even cheaper than the grocery type. That being said I think the liquid from your garlic would work but be sure there is nothing extra in there (like any other preservatives or enhancements). I have never tried anything else myself, but the garlic guard is simply plain galic extract.

If it is plain garlic extract I think you would be ok. However, the minced garlic we buy for people use at our house is packed in oil and I would not put that in my tank. You can crush your own garlic but in the end I think that would be more expensive than buying Garlic Guard or the like. The last bottle I bought was $12 and lasted over a year. At less than a dollar a month it's the cheapest thing I buy for my tanks. :)
