I have been looking into the dimmable mh lights tonight. so far all i have found that is promising is this link Sfiligoi s.r.l. - aquarium technologies (http://www.sfiligoi.it/acls_en.htm). They claim they have a controller (ACLS) that can dim HQI MH fro 0-100%. I have read that the 400W icecap mh ballast is dimmable to 50% but haven't found any other info. In the podcast the Coravue and Blueline HD were mentioned but i haven't found any info on them. Please post if anyone has anymore info on dimmable mh. thanks

I couldn't find one for BlueLine but here is
250-watt Electronic Dimmable Ballast 110 VAC, Coral Vue Technologies. (http://oceanhomesetc.com/products/250_watt_Electronic_Dimmable_Ballast_110_VAC_Coral _Vue_Technologies-9860-146.html)

i wonder if there is a way to auto control the dimming. also i wonder if the bulb life is shortened. i guess this would be a neat feature if you had too much light in spots of the tank. or to create different lighting effects in the tank.

I think the idea is to increase and decrease the light in the morning and the evening in order create a more natural environment.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that the websites that have dimmable ballasts indicate extended lamp life.

Well, if you can swing the purcahse price the payback period for savings in power and bulbs is 2-3 years and then you start saving money. :)
