Hi all,
I have a bucket with about 30 lbs of oolitic sand that was given to me by a friend. What do you think is the best way to clean the sand for use? It is submerged in salt water that looks pretty clear. Can I rinse it in tap water first and then rinse it with water collected from a water change to clear it out from clorine and stuf or should I use distilled water to rinse it?

I'd put it in a trash can and use the hose outside, keeping it stirred up so any detritus gets flushed out.

I'd do what Carmie suggested. If you are then going to add it to your current system, I'd do a saltwater final rinse just to make it more compatible with the environment it's going into.
