In the on going project called the reef tank I am curious about hang on refugiums. I have a 125 gallon long tank I am looking into getting a 36 inch hang on refugiums to eliminate the under the tank system I have now. It is a pain maintainin the water levels even with the top off system. I am consernced about the weight. I thought of cutting 2x2's as additional support. What do you think about the idea?

I have a 24" on my 120. I'm currently using it to farm xenia, as I never thought it was all that useful as a refugium. I converted half my sump to a fuge, and am much happier with it.

I have one on my 55g. Works like a charm. The only think is I had to take pieces of cardboard and tape it to the sides and the side facing the tank to shield the light. I have the fuge on a reverse light cycle than the DT lights to keep the pH stable.

I currently have a 30 gallon under the tank which is running about thwo years now but the water flow and leveling is a constant pain. HOw did you have your hang on set up? Perhap the lighting wasn't insuffiecient

Its hung on the back of the tank and it came with a light and my cheato grows great in it, along with everything else! Before I moved I was also farming xenia in it and it grew like no tomorrow! Lighting should not be a problem at all with it but like I stated earlier if you want to run in on a reverse cycle then you are going to have to shield the DT light from it with something(i used cardboard from an old box). This helps keep the pH from dropping when its night time for the fishies.
