I have a Yellow watchman Goby that after quarantine for about 10 days was put into my tank. He is the first fish in this tank and besides the snails and hermits there is a fireshrimp.

I noticed this white area on his side a few days ago which doesn't seem to be cotton like. It looks as if it is pigmentation to my eyes but I am hoping others with more experience can help.

First it is a 29G bio cube with all water parameters doing good. Porter is eating and looking otherwise normal except for the white area. The one thing that makes me think it might be irritaion is that the fireshrimp likes to clean him. He starts his cleaning right at the point of irritation and works his way back to the tail.

He acts normal as far as I can tell.

Any ideas?

looks like he may have rubbed against a rock or something in the tank. sometimes when my clowns hit a rock, they get a little white place on them.

yes, I was going to say the same. Maybe he accidently got hurt by something and the tissue is now healing. Keep a close eye on it and make sure it's not spreading or looking more cotton-like.

Thanks for the feed back, I was thinking the same thing but it is always nice to hear others opinions. Especially when it backs up your own hunch.

As for the pictures thanks I have been playing with my new work toy the Nikon D300. These where shot at ISO 800 if I remember correctly. I usually shoot Weddinga and Aerials so this is something fun to shoot during bad weather.

I wouldnt worry to much...My yellow watchman changes colors all the time...he sometime has the brightblue spots sometimes he has black vertical bands...very fun but at any rate if yours is eating and active i wouldnt woory espically if it doesnt spread.

CarmieJo, thanks and it seems to be doing better.

The images were taken with the new Nikon D300 and the older 35-70 2.8 which is a push pull lens. It also has a macro mode as well. Taken at an ISO of 800. I also use the 70-200 2.8 with extension tube for some of my shots.
