Hello everyone, I just started a 28 gallon JBJ Nano Cube HQI Aquarium that comes stock with a 150 watt 14,000k HQI Metal Halide Bulb and I'm curious if this would be too much for SPS Corals in a small space. I burned some of my SPS Corals with the same lighting in a 10 gallon Aquarium and I'm not looking to do it again. What type of bulb would you use?

I would go with the 14,000k, maybe with actinics, though I doubt they'd fit in the hood. If you wanted to uprgrade, nanotuners.com probably has a hood mod of some sort.

I just think 20Ks are sexy. I'm going back to 20Ks on my 120 when it's time to change the bulbs again.
i don't think that you'll have a problem burning sps in this setup. the stock bulbs jbj uses for these tanks seem pretty blue (to my eye at least). it also kind of depends on what you're looking for; growth or color. growth go with 10K. color 20K, but like I said, I think that the stock bulb is pretty blue. i definitely would agree with phurst ... 20K's are sexy fun!!
curious, how did you burn your sps in that last setup? bulb too close to the water surface? corals too close to the top?
hey thanks!! i just finished listening to ALL the podcasts!! took me about 2 months, and I could not wait to register!!!
oh and btw, i know this is off topic, but i'm so jealous of your Solaris!!!!
you have officially out-toyed me!!!

I would go with 14k personally. Less chance of burning corals because of the lowered par rating, and also because the 14k will provide better coloration in the corals.
