I have bubbles on my sand and lr. It looks like air bubbles but they are on the bottom of tank and on live rock. What could be causing that? I have cyano also. Is that causing the bubbles?

Usually boubles are present when the tank is first setup but you mentioned Cyano so that would make me think the tank has been setup for awhile so we won't go there. Now when you say on the live rock are the boubles all over the rock or just on the rock closest to the sand? usually bubbles on the sand means C02 discharge if i remember right, sorry been out of the game for a few months. Here is a few questions

Are the bubbles small?
How deep is the sand?
What do you have in the tank?

Cyano can definitely cause bubbles. I believe dinoflagelates can too. I'm betting on the cyano here.

I've got some red slime remover coming. The bubbles are on the sand and on the live rock. Mainly where the cyano is. Sand depth is about 2". Normal reef inhabitants.

Does it look a lot like hair algae (green/brown stringy) with bubbles? Cyanos velvet red color is usually quite different than Dinos.

No, I am sure it is cyano, it is really pretty velvet red. I hope the red slime remover works. I think the problem was caused by overfeeding in the beginning. That has stopped and all of the water parameters seem to be ok now.

Be careful with Red Slime remover. i have seen tanks wiped out because the people did not follow the directions carefully!

try to find the source of your cyano - for instance the cause of increased phosphate or nitrate levels...even if you treat it with cyano remover, if you haven't changed the problem, it will just come back again.

I totally agree with Reefbaby. You are far better off finding and eliminating the source of the problem while manually removing as much cyano as possible. Increased flow will also help.
If you use the red slime remover your skimmer will go nuts for up to several weeks and water changes. It did get rid of they cyano but until I fixed the problem it kept coming back.

I agree that you have to fix the problem once you have I found that the red slime remover was really effective and it did not come back.

Are the bubbles green, if so it could be bubble algae. What kind of skimmer are you using? Also, what are your water params?

haha i had this same problem in my tank hat has a lionfish in it....everything was covered in bubbles...its not really a major problem....i just poked at them with my feeding prong...(seeing how its a lionfish and im not putting my hand in there. lol) and they went to the top and popped...i havnt had the problem again...i also had a horrible hair algae problem, but it seems line once these bubbles started to come....the hair algae stopped growing and now everything is turning purple... =] my heater is covered with coraline algae spots....it looks like it has a weird disease. haha =P
