Ok! So at the much back and forth compliments thrown from Veriann to Danamck and back I decided to make my own post to document my story.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! I have been SEARCHING and SEARCHING for the PERFECT tank (specifically 92gallon bowfront corner) for about a month now; and researching the crap out of this kind of aquarium. AND I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!! I pick it up this friday <3.

Before anyone gets as excited as I am, I am going to take my time with this. I have zero experience in saltwater aquariums.

(to be continued, as I am about to leave the office ^_^)

EXCITEMENT IN THE FORM OF AN AQUARIUM! <3

More on my background:

I have had freshwater aquariums for a long time (as well as koi in ponds), my uncle got me into the hobby when I was about 8 years old (I'm 25 now). I had been wanting to do Saltwater, but I never had the time to do it. Everyone says it's not that much time required, but I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week (or I was...now It's easy street and it's time to move up). So I've been reading and reading in the past, but really only started to READ and fully comprehend some of what's going on inside these wonderous tanks for the past month (previous reading was lost to the zombie I became when I was working too much). So I am still in the research phase, learning the names of the fish, what is aggressive, what is not, what gets along together, what does not...and also of course not to trust everything to the LFS, after all they're just out to make a buck. And then I found TR! <3

During my initial searches I fell upon the Nano-cube 24, I was about 3 minutes from purchasing it but I thought...I have to monitor chemicals (I'm a chemical engineer at my job) and things can go wrong in SECONDS if not done correctly or checked often enough. Lets see what I can find out first and sure enough I learned rule #1, the only thing that happens in a salt water tank quickly is disaster. I also learned that the bigger the tank the longer it takes for bad chemicals to throw the entire thing to the fishes (so to speak).

While tossing back a few brewskis at a friend of mine's house I stumbled upon his beautiful 92 gallon corner tank and was instantly taken. I LOVE it. The look, ect ect...everything, so I started searching for one. Checked a few prices and purchased mine (as you read above) since it was a steal, I couldn't pass it up.

For the tank itself:

I haven't yet decided what I want to do. I like the idea of having corals, but I know that as a noob you should try things that are a little more hardy. I want to do a FOWLR anyway, so I'll probably do that with this (making sure the fish are reef-safe so I could potentially go coral in the future).

My nephew is begging me to put a "Nemo" in my freshwater tank so I'll be getting one of those (ocellaris?). He also wants a Dorie, of which I believe that's a hippo tang (Paracanthurus hepatus). I don't know if my tank will be big enough because I know she likes a LOT of swimming room (gallon-wise it is, but I'm worried about the shape...I'll post pics when I pick up the tank ^_^).

Anyway, that's enough for now...gonna grab a bite to eat, then I'm gonna head to bed (work @ 4am SUCKS!!!).

sounds like a wonderful trip your about to embark on, wow, i remember how excited i was. Hope the experience is fulfillling as ours was. & still is!
you have a good crew here to fall back on & bounce ideas or questions off, we're easy to talk & relate to.

just remember, set it right, means setting it up once.
Post up your intentions, what you've learnt already & we'll bounce or correct whats need attention. remember there is alot of info, & alot comes down to experience, but keep in mind your meant to have fun doing it! so learning it all is the fun part!

start with the basic 3 & work from there

Welcome to TR!

Glad you started your own thread. Sounds like you're off to a great start. You've found a good home for information here. As Veriann said, let us know what you're planning to do, and we'll be happy to give you some feedback. Even when you don't want it.

Some of the things you've already posted lead me to believe you are going to do fine. For example, you are smart in being concerned about the Hippo tang. And this is a perfect example of a situation where you are going to get conflicting points of view. Here's mine: you are correct about the gallons being OK, and you are also correct about the shape of your tank being a concern. While this tang will be fine for a while, I believe it will eventually outgrow the tank. And most tangs tend to be aggressive little bas#@%*s, so this would not be the fish I would start off with.

Of course, I always err on the safe side. I have a 240 gallon tank with 12 fish in it, and all are small except the Powder Blue Tang. Most people who see the tank thing it is very understocked and that i need to add more fish. I think it's just right. So put me in the no Hippo Tang group!

Hi Skyl and :welcome: to TR (and the corner tank club)!

I will be looking forward to watching your tank develop. Like Dana, I err on the side of caution with 4 fish in my corner tank and 2 in my nano. I commend you for doing the research first, you will be far more successful in the long run!

Allllllllllllllllllll righty! The tension is mounting, today is the day I pick up my tank. I can't wait to get it home, fill 'er up and watch 'er run. I gotta test out the pumps, make sure there's no leaks, ect ect. I am picking up my RO/DI filter today too.

Still researching some of the more hardy fish (not to throw in now of course, but when I'm ready) for keeping in the tank. Definently going to, "Send in the Clowns." Thinking about a firefin, damsels...any major suggestions? This is all for preparations and getting a base-list down for the tank. Gonna be FOWLR for now then maybe move to Coral later on (I know, it's backwards but as long as the fish are reef-safe I shouldn't have many *if any* problems...*knocks on wood*).
