Hello everyone!

i new to the whole Reef thing but enjoy it a lot. I was doing so searches on the Solaris LED lighting and stubled upon this forum which i will be making my new home as you all seem really cool and helpful.

So i have a 245 gallon Corner Tank. It is 48x48x30

I want to put the 48" Solaris in it but not sure how it will do for lighting up the back of the tank as it's going to be a pretty tight fit. I have the same Problem with the 48" Coralife HM/PC unit thats in there now...

Here is a quick diagram i put togeather... any ideas?

http://www.wwwdezignz.com/mike/rob/tank.jpg

i was thinking i can atleast throw a seperate PC fixture on the back half or something, or possible just putting corals that don't need as much light on in the back...

My Rock goes up pretty high so it would be somewhat close to the lights even though the are not directly overhead.

Any ideas or opinions would be greatly apprciated!

Thanks in Advance,
Rob

P.S. I'll take some pictures of the tank tonight when i get home and put them up later.

Here is a pic of my 100g i had going before i bought the corner tank and moved everything over... unfortunetely the transfer didn't go over to well with the corals, so i'm starting from scratch and just trying to make sure i get everything right this time as it's not a cheap hobby to make mistakes like the one i did.... :madmad:

Here is my Newest tank which now houses my California Horn Shark, Coral Cat Shark, Desjardini Sailfin Tang, Pacific Blue and a couple Damsels.... Sergent Major is bigger than my Sailfin these days... Can't believe he's out growing the rest of them... lol

Rob,

Ok, to answer your question. The Solaris 48" actually measures 46.75" by 8.7" so you gain a little wiggle room. If you can raise the Solaris you gain light spread without much lose of intencity or PAR. It's difficult to say for sure but you may be ok and have the option of adding a PC strip behind as you mentioned.

That corner tank has got to be AWESOME to see.

first i would also like to welcome you to talking reef,
i was thinking i can at least throw a separate PC fixture on the back half or something, or possible just putting corals that don't need as much light on in the back...
i think both of these ideas would work, also i like the idea Amphibious has offered and raise the light enough to cover it or you can try my idea which is to raise just the two rear corners of the light by about 2-3 inches, that way the light will cover nearly all of the tank and you wont have all the extra light being cast out into the room from raising the whole light, its probably worth a try,...again welcome!

Ok, here are a couple pics of my new reef tank.

There are a couple mushrooms laying around but that about it.
If you read earlier i said how i made the newbie mistake and killed my collection :(

Now i'm back in action and motivated to get it really going this time! :wow:

No Corals yet but here is the foundation, ENJOY!

Let me know your thoughts.

I'm leaning towards throwing the 48" Solaris under there instead ot the MH.
being the tank is 30" deep will the salaris still have enough juice to get corals and clams on the bottom?

Hi Rob and :welcome: to TR!

I have merged the 2 threads together and put the thread in General.

I want a tank big enough to swim in! I too have a corner tank but it is only a 54. :) But, I do have a Solaris on it! I LOVE my Solaris. I have the original G series and it reaches the bottom of my 24" tank with no problem. I have plenty of light in the tank for viewing and my corals are colored and growing like never before. Solaris in now on the third generation and the new LED's are far brighter than on my G series.

I'd be happy to handle your Solaris purchase. If you have questions before, or after the sale, PM me or use our toll free number 888 745-0449 to contact me directly. Leave your number and a message if I can't pick up at the moment.

I said earlier that the 245 corner tank had to be awesome and it truly is. And it comes with it's own "Baby Grand Piano" hinged top. Cool! Now I understand why you can't raise the Solaris more. Noticed with the top down there is a shadow in the back near the overflow with your current lighting. You may have that too with the Solaris but, you will have room for a PC behind if you choose to go that route.

Anyone on TR that had an infuence in your decision, "Cheers, and thank you".

Dick
